Title: We all got sad stories. Need some advice
Post by: Surigao Ken on December 10, 2002, 05:00:00 AM

We all experience pain.

To make a long story short, my wife's cousin from the P.I. married a loser who arranged a quick civil marriage, took her virginity, promised to come back with the full blown Catholic ceremony, and then dumped her. His reason? She didn't speak English good enough. She speaks excellent english by the way.
He wants her to file annulment  papers in the P.I., so it doesn't show up on his side. He is from Canada. ( No swipes at those good people.)
Now my cousin is ruined and needs help. His name is Larry Vantreen, with the agency Cherry Blossoms. His handle is LV cbp043282. On his profile he now states that he is single again and is on the prowl for other girls.

Well, I'm trying to do something about this. Any ideas?

Thanks
Take care,
Surigao Ken

Hey guys,

On my little problem I have sent some emails to the Philippine Bureau of Immigration and Deportation and one to Cherry Blossoms about this loser who preys on unsuspecting women.
I'm thinking of other ways to help my wife's cousin but nothing clear yet.

Take care all!

First of all, report him to the BID.  There must be some law that will ban him from ever returning to the country and fooling another Filipina.  Can't the Canadian embassy help in suing the guy and making him pay for what he did?
She can also go to Sen. Loren Legarda for help in seeing that the guy is made to pay.  All Philippine senators' email are available online.

Hi C,

Right you are! I'm sure Loren will want to take it out on Kanos   in general. Did you ever wonder if Bill Clinton sexually harassed GMA in college?

I wouldn't say this is a poor reflection on agencies.  They simply gather clients from both sides who are interested in meeting and marrying.  There are good people and bad people everywhere, including those who use agencies.  We all have to make judgements about those we get involved with and expecting an agency to determine someone's character for us is not realistic IMHO.

I do think it's the women rather than the men who are taking the biggest risk though.  Being a forum primarily for men, this place tends to dwell on the risks for the men much more than for the women.  It's the women who tend to be younger and more naive.  It's tough to have good judgement when you're inexperienced.

A lot of these "young women" are trained by expert green card con artist in the Philippines who are very experienced in deception and swindling money out of their Penpals. It is very very well known information in the Philippines even to an 18 year old with dollar signs in her eyes.

But lets not forget like Shadow said and I have seen myself their seems to be a very large number of strange bizarre American men going to the Philippines looking to buy a wife.

So both are really taking a big risk. Take a look on Maganak at the recent case over there! WOW!!!!

Do you need an annulment if you are not married by the church in the phils, i would think annulment would not be that difficult on the basis of fraud on his part, but i know absolutely nothing about marriage in the phils.

I too don't know much about this process. But the creep that married my wife's cousin wants her to pay for the annulmnet claiming he doesn't have the money.
