I did not know that Asain people were not considered white people. OK, call me dumb. I know they are called Asain, But never anything other than that. The reason I bring this up is After reading the site on this post and after going to Asain Avenue, I am finding there is a little race problem with some Asian's to the white people. This seems to be mostly from Asain's living in America. I have decided to look for an Asain wife and have been reading alot on this for the last week. After reading the forums on Asain Avenue, I see that A lot of Asain"s have a problem with Americans, or it seem's that way. I do understand that A lot of the post on AA are students here. This has me thinking that an Asain women living in America would not be a wise way to go. Also these ladies are much to young for me anyway, just trying to learn a little about them. would love to hear comments on this. Yes, Asians are a different race than Caucasians. Anyway, I know very few asians who are dead set against interracial dating and marriage - however many don't consider many of the white people they know as particularly compatable. It has to do with personalities and culturally based expected behaviors. Let me give you an example. I consider myself all American - I'm pretty tall, blue eyed, lifetime NRA member, conservative Republican, from Texas, and fiercely patriotic, yet most Japanese (and many other Asians I've met and dealt with) both overseas and here don't consider me very "American." To them I'm "European," to which I took offense at first. To me, saying I'm European is akin to saying I'm a socialist whimp, with a snobbish streak, but to them, the implication was that I was respectful and polite, unlike many of the Americans they'd been exposed to. Before I ever visited with any Asian countries, or met any Asian people, I spent some time learning a bit about the language, culture, and social graces to make sure I wasn't offensive (Much of my experience has been in a business context.) I guess the moral of this story is to not be concerned about what a few Asians vocally complain, but rather to make yourself more compatable with the Asian women you come across. Air drumming with chopsticks or doing the in-zone dance in a public place when you see your favorite team score on the bar TV, will definately not get you an invitation to come home to meer her parents, but knowing what to order and how to say "thank you" in her language will win you lots of points. Just my experience - your mileage may vary. -- Jeff S. I dont mind at all if different ethnic or racial groups bash American culture. Americans do it all the time. I think it's prettty normal throughout the world which is why I hate all the political correctness. That restaurant post was a great example of how differences can be quite funny. I love the Air drumming example. I found out very quickly through my exwife(chinese) that that particlular culture has a very low opinion of white people. But so what, I challenged all their stereotypes and changed some perceptions. Some liked me some didn't, the way of the world. JOE Title: I agree, political correctness is ... ... real BS, but manners are an entirely different thing. Using them shows respect, and lack of them shows contempt. A lack of manners restricts your choices to the rude few, while expertise with them opens doors. Just my opinion, your mileage may vary. -- Jeff S. Terry Welcome to P.L. I have never been to Asian Avenue or even heard about it before. I will check it out though. I occasianally check in on some of the AOL Asian message boards such as THINGS ASIANS DON"T TALK ABOUT and ASIAN DATING. There appears to be a high level of Asian bonding and yes problems from them against other races there too. Though it has finally mellowed out there was a lot of friction between the Asian community and African American posters for a long time. Is it the strength in numbers idea I am not sure. Now some of the posters are harping about being an under represented minority in a white controled society. Some (mostly women posters) are also advocating that Asian women have more pride in their race and stick with dating asian men and stop jumping ship and "selling out" to marry white men as a status symbol. I say you like who you like and if you can find a match where you both are happy to heck with everybody else. These posters feel that they need a forum to talk about what irks them and to vent about what bothers them, just like we are fortunate to have our forum here (thanks again patrick). I can take some white bashing if that is what makes them happy. It is their problem, if they are trying to unify to find some asian pride by venting out against others not mine. It is just like Greek people should have their own forums to talk about life as they see it from a Greek perspective if this is what they want. Look at it this way. there are plenty of fish in the American sea and even many more in the Asian seas. Don't let these posters scare you off from the American market. Realize that they are only the small minority who really feel strong enough about their causes to bother to post about them. You have just as good a chance to find a nice woan here too. I myself am still open to finding a nice American Asian girl but I am having less than good luck in finding one who even wants to communicate in general. I have tried a few dating services here and my results have been less than stellar. I find myself leaning towards trying overseas. Yes you might not be able to have an off the cuff conversation with them about watching SIX FEET UNDER on HBO last night or about Brittany Spearchuckers latest video. but you will have fun explaining what a SWEET TOOTH means and you will get the chance to experiece a whole new fresh perspective on life. I really find that to be interesting and stimulating myself. I have had the best luck myself with forming friendships on the Asian penpal boards on AOL however 90% of the posters are Japanese.
