Title: Russian/Ukranian GDP statistics Post by: TwoBitBandit on November 25, 2003, 05:00:00 AM Every year, The Economist publishes economic statistics on all major countries. Among the statistics is per-capita GDP.
Below I've copied the per-capita GDP figures for Russia and Ukraine... and also included a bunch of other countries for comparison. I think these are interesting statistics...especially if you're fascinated by economics like I am. If you're not fascinated by economics... at least these numbers give you some idea about the wealth of these countries relative to Russia/Ukraine. Russia $3,110 Ireland $43,790 Title: Re: A Better Measure may be....... the number of hours one has to work for basics, staples, etc. This would then take into account the various taxes, social benefits and such. For example, if one were to look at the "typical" (whatever THAT is) lifestyle of a teacher, nurse, electrician or carpenter in the different countries, one might have a better handle on the 'quality of life' that may be "enjoyed" in that country. One must also take into account the 'social benefits' provided by the state/employer. Then, one should consider the 'cultural' aspects (hell bent consumerism, amount of vacation days, costs of entertainment, and such). Most often we try to measure with our own 'yardsticks' and other's 'yardsticks' may differ from ours. And then, when we try to "label" something as either 'good/better or bad/worse' rather than simply accepting it as 'different' we tend to box ourselves in. Hi. But you need to look at the PPP* indtead, and from World factbook from CIA. (data from 2002) state following: Russia $3,110 PPP:9300 USD Ireland $43,790 PPP:30500 USD * PPP= purchase power parity. Perhaps USA income is 12 time bigger than Russia, but however a lot of goods are cheaper, such as food. So you can but more, for the same money. You can always trust a Dane to know how to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. My family comes from Denmark and all of my relatives are still there in Copenhagen, Odense and Esbjerg. It's a great country with some of the warmest and most gracious people in the world. This summer after Anna has our first son together we plan to visit Denmark and my family as well as her family in Ukraine. Great post and keep up the good work Great Dane!!! Thanks. I live 35 miles ssw of Copenhagen :-) U might consider, visiting the relatives in Esbjerg last. Then have them drive you to Hamburg, and then off to Hamburg, then to Ukraine. At least it is just as short to go to Hamburg, than back to Copenhagen. Take care. Have you forgot the Danish language or want to rehurse bfore visit, try this link: http://travlang.com/languages with soundfiles. It has been so long since I have spoken Danish but I was planning on buying a CD course this winter to practice. Thanks for the info. As always, the Danes are the best, therefore the name Great Dane! Best Wishes, |
