bill, if you run cmd.exe and then in msdos type ping www.whatever.com (the name of the site you are trying to reach) you can get the websites IP number. it'll look something like 165.123.0.9er or something. then just type that number in the address bar. Its the way to get around some web blocking software. :) Title: Re: English - Russian software program question Post by: romachko on November 09, 2003, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to English - Russian software program quest..., posted by wsbill on Nov 8, 2003
There is a free on-line translation service. My fiancés as well as a friend of mine’s Russian wife say that the quality of the translation is very good. http://www.translate.ru/text.asp?lang=en You can download software for translation fro this site but it simply connects your writing to their site, i.e., it is not a stand-alone software program. The translation is both ways, i.e., English to Russian and Russian to English. Title: Use this online program from Promt. Use this link to go to the 'Promt' website, use the online translation program and if it meets your needs, consider buying the program. I have an older version (3yrs old), and paid $400 for it, and it was worth it's weight in gold. Highly recommended. http://www.translate.ru/text.asp?lang=en Title: Re: Most Department of Defense computers Post by: wsbill on November 08, 2003, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Use this online program from Promt., posted by RfB on Nov 8, 2003
Block out alot of website. Foreign, love, MOB sites, porn, etc. (all the good stuff is out of reach). Also, they like any company in America tracks your every move and e-mail sent. If your on a aircraft carrier - good luck, as well. I tried to send out a simple e-mail and I kept getting kicked off. I know with the new Navy NMCI network, talk about royal pain in the rear, 3/4 of the time the system/internet is down. I don't even use... I guess they wanted a secure setup...they got one. As wsbill is doing me a favor I consider this my thread. Stay out of it if you have nothing to contribute, I'm on a timeline and you're an annoyance. To those that have contributed, thanks. I decided not to go with Promt as it comes out of St Pete. Russia and the freight is unreasonable. Still searching. As for wsbill, he's done me more favors than I can count and I've never even met the guy. Some day he will have a Ukrainian wife, just not right now, so he has more of a right to be here than most of you yahoos. Since he doesn't have a wife he has too much time on his hands, therefore posts' too much. I don't read all his emails, why do you bother to. As wsbill says, I'm being mobilized for the sandbox. Just wanted to publicly say thanks to Bill while I have the time. I really do need a translation program so if there are any lurkers out there who are holding out I'd appreciate your input. How are you posting is you aren't "mobilized for the sandbox?" A quick check through the Archives shows this account having posted 19 times in the past year... Who are you, Marty? running a search for "eletronic handheld language translators" and check out the several companies' inventorys to see what is available. You should get companys like Ectaco and some others that are warehouse distributors right here in USA of exactly what you're looking for. ***Just so you know...They're all negotiable on their prices...I've called quoting prices on things of the sought before only to have them call me back a few days or a week later and make me offers cheaper than they origionally quoted me...FWIW....Best of luck... Thanks, but I want a program I can put on my computer and also on my wife's so we can write/email back and forth. Title: No Language Force, Nyet! Post by: tim360z on November 11, 2003, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to jrm..., posted by Marty on Nov 10, 2003
I also got that program a couple years ago and it was NG, despite Language Forces PR. I kept researching and Prompts was the best...but it too had problems. Like a sentence can become gibberish. But it was the best. Good luck. Title: Marty Post by: tim360z on November 11, 2003, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to No Language Force, Nyet!, posted by tim360z on Nov 11, 2003
There are inherent problems with programs which translate sentences Eng-Rus or Rus-Eng. If you are going to be writing to some ladies it would be better to have a person fluent in both languages to translate. And not to use a program. Title: Re: Marty Post by: Marty on November 11, 2003, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Marty, posted by tim360z on Nov 11, 2003
Thanks but my wife would be a little upset if I start writing to "some ladies". Nope, just need the program so I can communicate with Larisa for the next 18 months to 2 years. Title: You can go cheaper,, Post by: RfB on November 10, 2003, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to jrm..., posted by Marty on Nov 10, 2003
But cheaper is what you will get. I first bought something called 'Universal Translator 2000' from Language Force ("the translation software experts"), and for a modest amout it promised to be the best program on the market,if you needed more power in the program, it could be upgraded for a slight additional fee. I installed it, and translated a few letters I wrote, and it looked great to me, but the girls I showed the letters to in Russia said that they were just a bunch of words that had absolutely no meaning when put into a sentence. TOTALLY worthless as a translation program. The additional fee to upgrade just sent a software key to unlock programming that was already on the CD, that added more meaningless words into a group to a sentence. The shipping was a lot from Promt, but it does the job, and that's what counts. Now that it can be delivered online, that's even better yet, and it's cheaper than it was a few years ago. Gee, LP, why did you need to refresh your cookie? Did you really expect that it wouldn't be noticed? Some of us do read WS Bill's posts! [This message has been edited by LP] What does Bill's post have to do with my refreshing my cookie? (Which by the way is also the purpose of *this* post.) It's this darn software I have. I like to keep my PC clean because I'm a privacy freak. You'd be too if you were wanted in 11 states... Btw, I would go bragging about reading Bill's posts if I were you. ;-) Title: Re: huh? Bill's post was about posting in an old thread that's about to be archived rather than starting your own "test" post. I guess the timing was coincidental. Title: Re: Re: huh? Post by: LP on November 30, 2003, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: huh?, posted by Richard on Nov 29, 2003
I do refresh cookies in an old thread, as I'm doing here with Marty's post. Interesting to have a conversation way down here eh? Does this make us "bottom feeders?" ;) |
