Yes, I have used Rosetta Stone. I like it very much. I also like the Pimsleur CD's although it is a different kind of learning. I would suggest Rosetta Stone very highly. Nothing will take the place of finding a native Russian speaker to teach you but that can be very pricy. If you're less than 100% ethical, you can buy pirated copies for much less than list price. I did Pimsleur + Rosetta Stone + work through a textbook and did OK when I went to Moscow... I could get around OK, ask directions, buy things OK, argue with the dumbass customs people at the airport, etc... I would say that Pimsleur helped me the most, but Rosetta stone was great for giving me a lot of vocabulary. Eventually you'll need to knuckle down and buy a book that will teach you grammar. It's not as much fun as Rosetta/Pimsleur and you don't need to do it at the beginning... but eventually you'll get to a point that you need to study plain ol' grammar. Yes, It worked very well for me. I tried a few different products and this worked the best. Though it is a bit expensive. If I recall it was about $200, but worth it. |
