Title: Marriage In Russia
Post by: TomTx on August 11, 2003, 04:00:00 AM
Guys I have a question that nobody seems to be able to answer, and the Embassy are not much help either. This question is for the married guys that got married in Russia..

As you know when you get married in Russia there is much paper work and many documents needed for Zag's, but nobody talks about what visa you need to accomplish this, will a tourist visa/business or homestay visa be the best.

My lady's friend told her when she got married, her to-be husband HAD to have a homestay visa before Zag's would except the marriage and make it legal.

Has anybody else been though this procedure and what visa did you get for Zag's/

Thanks
Tom

Tom,

I got married in Moscow in March.  I was able to send all of the necessary documents (including the signed application) to my wife (fiance, at the time) ahead of time, and she was able to turn in the application and schedule the wedding date by herself.  I went over on a tourist visa, and I didn't have any problems.  If you do that, of course, you'll have to tell the passport control officials that you're just there for a vacation, and you'll probably have to get registered at a hotel.  All of this can be done rather easily without much expense.  ZAGS doesn't care what kind of visa you have.  So long as you can get there, the actual ceremony will be a breeze.  The hardest part is getting all of the documents together and getting them to your fiance for her to submit the application.

Let me know if I might be of further assistance to you.  Good luck!

Don
