Title: Cherepashka Maya . . . Post by: Dan on July 29, 2003, 04:00:00 AM Well, 2 months to go (less, we think) and all is well.
Any guesses as to the translation of the subject? - Dan Title: Re: Cherepashka Maya . . . Post by: genoramix on July 29, 2003, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Cherepashka Maya . . ., posted by Dan on Jul 29, 2003

Dan, Phonetically it could mean "my little turtle"? It's sort of kind nickname (for somebody you like a lot) who is moving somewhat slowly. Certainly nothing the other person should take offence. Or got it completely wrong and you refer to some of many Russian cartoons? Mick Title: Yep - Moving Slow She Is These Days . . . And constantly complaining that "this stomach just doesn't fit ANYWHERE!" The 'little turtle' comment seemed the perfect descriptor. - Dan Title: Re: Yep - Moving Slow She Is These Days . . . Your little turtle will be out with you soon enough. It is so exciting--you'll both be filled with such love for this new little being. Ours is 3 weeks old today! Kateryna Isabella. The last few weeks before the baby is born are the longest. We kept waiting and hoping Katya would come sooner. Best wishes to you and Olya. Enjoy your sleep now! Title: Sleepless Nights? . . . How's Dima with getting up at night with Katya? Olya is just now asking how you can have time to read the board with a 3-week-old?!? She is impressed! --smile-- How are you handling the patronymic (sp?) names? Congratulations to you and Dima on the birth of the baby! - Dan Title: Re: Sleepless Nights? . . . Dima hates patronymics, so that was not an issue. He was more concerned that Katya's last name be the feminine version of his name (or he was ok if she just had my last name.) I wanted the masculine version of his name (ending in -sky, not -ska). I didn't want all 3 of us to have different last names--too confusing here. Dima gets up and changes her diapers and then brings her back to me so I can feed her. I was in a lot of pain for the first 2 weeks, so it would have been hard for me to get up much with her. She is awake a lot at night, but hopefully that will change. I am not working much at the moment, so I am ok with the minimal sleep, but I think its harder on Dima. I actually was back in the office 6 days after the baby was born, and have been in a couple of times, but for the most part, Dima is taking care of things at the office so that I don't have to worry about it. We feel so lucky to have Katya in our lives. Its a whole new kind of love. I am glad we are back in the US. I know we are getting the best medical care, and my parents have been helping us out a lot. Being a father here is different for Dima than it would have been in Ukraine. He definitely would not have been there for the birth if we were still there. I think the child birth classes were really interesting for him, and he said he learned a lot. He is a very good Dad (and husband). I wish Olya a calm last 2 months and a very quick and easy labor! IHMO, epidurals ROCK! Get one as soon as they will give it to her. And get all the rest she can in the hospital. Drs, nurses and guests seemed to fill up our 2 days and left me wiped out. I think I would limit the guests next time -- if there were going to be a next time. You dont have much longer to wait until the real adventure begins! |
