Title: an anti abuse bill for mail order brides
Post by: genoramix on July 07, 2003, 04:00:00 AM
he Associated Press

Motivated by the murder of a mail-order bride, members of Congress
are drafting a bill that would enable foreign women seeking American
husbands to learn the criminal background of men courting them
through matchmaking agencies.

The legislation, expected to be introduced this month in the House
and Senate, represents the most serious effort yet to impose federal
oversight over a loosely regulated, Internet-based industry.

The measure's prime sponsors are Sen. Maria Cantwell and Rep. Rick
Larsen, both Democrats from Washington state - where 20-year-old
Anastasia King, a mail-order bride from Kyrgyzstan, was killed in
September 2000.

Her husband, Indle King Jr., was convicted last year of first-degree
murder. He had divorced a previous foreign bride and was seeking a
third before the killing.

Larsen anticipates bipartisan support for the measure, though he is
unsure how matchmaking services will respond.

The legislation would require international marriage brokers to ask
clients about any criminal record, including protective orders
issued because of domestic violence allegations. Indle King's first
wife had obtained a protective order against him in 1995.

The client's information would be provided to women contemplating
marriage with him. If the man then applied for a U.S. visa for a
prospective bride, he would undergo a criminal background check by
federal officials.

No firm statistics exist on the extent of abuse suffered by mail-
order brides, or even the numbers of such women. In the most recent
attempt to quantify the industry, immigration officials said in 1999
that more than 200 international matchmaking services operated in
the United States, arranging 4,000 to 6,000 marriages annually
between American men and foreign women, mostly from the Philippines
and former Soviet Union.

they need to add into that anti-abuse measures to protect American men who tangle with scammer women who have an agenda and simply claim abuse without any evidence of such.

After the 2 year period, or how many women bolt upon getting here.

I wish the USA would create a nationwide ID card.  Anyone not having one would immediately be put in jail and returned to their original country after they repaid their airfair by making license plates for the respective state from which they are aprehended.

grab both ears, pull real hard, when you hear a pop maybe you will have removed your head from some un-sanitary place and will realize what you are suggesting----------------Do you really think that we need border checks at every state line? The random spot checks along the roadway to sift thru all your personal belonging such as is common in most FSU countries. Get a grip man, we are near enough to a police state now.

But that does make pretty good sense.

I envision a better way to keep track of you, merchants already probably know more about you than this so called police state.   Better ditch your cell phone or don't make any calls at all.  The guys at the Echelon - listen post already have got your name and address ... if you calling overseas alot.

But,sounds like your in our country illegally and don't want to be ejected.  What's the big deal, you've already got a Social Security Card... that card should be updated with the number encrypted so as not to be lifted and should have a photo ID and other information about one self.

Just like my military id card.  It's got a memory chip on it with medical record info, basic info etc...

This is something that is long over due.

Police state, yea right.

All 96 and newer vehicles have a "black box" type memory system incorporated in the vehicle's computer which effectively enables your driving history to be printed out for a service tech or anyone "else" that you "allow" to access it. And your response would be "Yes officer, I been a bad boy, here read my driving history and administer punishment, you want my money---can I trade you some 'maters for that sir? Think that is bunk, it was even on the boob tube lately, you know, where we get all that unbiased information.
Children in some of the Charlotte schools will have to submit to retinal scans in order to access their credits for the lunch money that their parents gave them (darn little criminals, those plastic tokens that were used when I went to school must have been to easy to sell for a big profit on the black market).
National ID cards, huh. Is that any different than the "Internal Passport" papers that are required in Ukraine. I suppose in your vast experience of travel there that you have not witnessed the harrassment that the average citizen goes thru just to carry out daily life, the degrading random witchhunt searches, the guilty until proven innocent mentality. In Ukraine,I have witnessed it and some board members have felt it. Do you have any concept of "Life, Liberty, and Persuit of Happiness", do you really know what all that encompasses?

A card with your photo id and personal data is long over due.

Papers can be forged etc...

Guilty until proven innocent is popular here as well.

National ID cards are a great idea.

In your own words:

Now what was that you said about police state???

Merchant's don't keep track of me, any info I give them is bogus to begin with. Haven't used a cell in about two years, not for your b.s reasons though. Too much bother.

If this is the best retort that you have, try again.

It is beyond me how anyone who has took a oath/pledge to uphold/defend the Constitution could make statements that you have. Apparently you've never read it or have some problem understanding what it says. As a study note, read Article IV & IX.

Adolph Hitler said "It is fortunate for "us" that the common people do not think"

I am sure that is the same title most of your mindset probably put on this county's founding fathers in their day. How dare them to be so bold as to speak of treason against their government (In case you don't remember that was England). I suppose you would rather be speaking the "Queen's" English,eh?

Fact is someone willing to speak-up for their rights is a hard thing to find.

Slavery is free, liberty costs, it's a never ending battle.

I suppose you believe everything Dan Rather-bias has to say about world affairs. LOL

Nope, I 've never read much on Waco, but I suppose you feel they were justified in slaughtering all those people when there is documented proof that they had every chance in the world to pick up their leader beforehand.

You sound like the average brainwashed citizen in Germany after Hitler rose to power---blind faith in the government.

Ben Franklin said: "He who gives up essential liberty for temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security."

...good stuff Lynn! National ID cards...Yikes! WS is the kind of guy that they shouldn't have allowed in the military, thank God they're being more selective these days. Then again most of 'em are a little brainwashed, just like my old pals in LE. Don't even get me started on Waco, I lost a few friends over that deal. And hey, lets not forget Ruby Ridge. ;-)

Sounds like you're familiar with: www.ratherbiased.com.

Lol..."Whats the frequency Kenneth?"

Actually, people like Willy scare me to death. What if he reproduced? Maybe they were a little aggresive with the mental manipulation when he was "in".

Rather is the main reason I rarely watch television news.

Give the average American: Pizza, beer, TV and a mobile palace and they care not what is "really" happening. Just like the Waco, Ruby Ridge and the Montana Freemen scenarios--------what the public was fed is b.s. and they ate it (no salt needed).

I wonder if they will ever pass any legislation to protect men from fraudulant accusations. Seems to me that lawmakers are under the false assumption that only men commit abuse. Common sense would tell them that every woman in this endeavor knows the rules and all she needs to do is "claim" abuse so she can receive her green card.
