Title: Foreign med students in Ukraine Post by: romachko on June 24, 2003, 04:00:00 AM In one of my flights from Istanbul to Simferopol, more than 20 young men and women from India were among passengers. They had been admitted to the medical school in Simferopol. Why? Because the tuition is just about the lowest in the world. The med school, on the other hand, needs students while the tuition is too high for many Ukrainians. They offer two routes: one in Ukrainian/Russian and the other in English. When my girlfriend and I were walking in the city park with, we encountered quite a few Indian students. They apparently keep themselves from the local people. Are those students going to stay in Ukraine? You must be kidding! Practically all of them will try and will be successful in practicing medicine where they are paid more than 100 times what they get paid in Ukraine or in their motherland. Yes, they will become OUR doctors. By the way more than 30 % of M.D.’s in the U.S. are from India. Also, without Indians the high tech industry and the science/engineering programs of university systems in the U.S. will very likely collapse, So, this is the story of supply and demand.
