Title: Baggage limits - Lufthansa
Post by: davet on May 20, 2003, 04:00:00 AM
Anybody flown Lufthansa from the US to SVO via Frankfort lately?  Web site indicates a 32 kg per bag - 2 bag limit for flights to and from the US.  Does the stop in Frankfort both ways change this limitation?  Regular (non US/Canadian flights) with Lufthansa have a 20 kg total baggage limit.  That's why I'm asking.
Thanks
Dave

Take from USA and back to USA as much as allowed,it is your country of "origination" and you can travel by "it's" weight limits.

You'll never touch your luggage in Frankfort so it'll be honored as a US origination.Same is true when you arrive into SVO (Shermetvo in Russia)...***I'd call Lufthansa and verify just to be certain there are no new changes***

There is no problem if you stay inside Moscow. The problem comes "if and when" you decide to travel from Moscow (for example) "INTO" another part of Russia or another country "FROM" Russia."THEN",you'll be flying under the 20kg and 5kg carry-on limit on Russian domestic flights "OUT" of Russia and you'll pay as much as a dollar a pound extra if over the limit...

If someone flys "domestic", they can't take  as much luggage as international flights..(two 55 lb limit bags)
They can take more bags but there is an extra charge..a big fat extra charge.
