No Yalta does not have an airport you must fly into Simferopol which is the captial of Crimea. You have a couple of choices of airlines to do this. Air Crimea which flies in and out of Kievs small domistic airport or Aerosvit (they have a website) which flies in and out of Kiev's international airport. Both of these airlines use small 30 passanger prop planes for this route and it takes about two hours for the flight. The round trip price is around $150 USD. I've flown both of these airlines and they're both fine. Of course if we're making trips to Ukraine we're not the typical Europe traveling tourist so is tolerable to is may not be the norm. I worked with a couple of travel companies based in Odessa who will purchase your tickets for you and then meet you at the Kiev airport to hand them to you. Also since my fiancee is from Simferopol I have contacts there who drove us around and also drove us to Yalta. You can get to Yalta from Simferopol by slow train, bus or car. Car with a driver is best and it's only about a 90 minute drive of so. Mark Title: Only One Small Correction . . . Air Crimea occasionally flies a 3 engine jet (Yak-42) into Simferopol. I much prefer the twin turbo-prop (AN-24). For aviation buffs, there is a website dedicated to photos of different types of FSU aircraft - here: http://www.bird.ch/Russians/RUSENTER.html Kind of interesting. - Dan |
