Title: Language Post by: chuck999 on March 20, 2002, 05:00:00 AM Is there a good program that you can get to learn the language they speak in Cebu? I am looking for one that has sound beacuse You need to know hou to pronounce the words and text does not do it for me. My fiance needs to learn english better so I thought I would also try and learn her language.

Have your fiancée look for a good English-Cebuano/Cebuano-English (or Visayan/English…) dictionary over there in the book store. Some have a section on common phrases and expressions that helps too. Also, have her look for a good English/Tagalog version. It’s a lot easier to find this stuff over there in the Phils. If you do a Web search for Cebuano, Bisayan, or Visayan you can find all kinds of on-line resources. There a learning programs that you can purchase, but I’d try all the free stuff you can find first. This site has an on-line vocabulary list and some other links: http://www.atoni.com/Bisaya/homepage.html Magtoon ka’g dugang, makakat’on ka’g dugang. Ray Title: Re: Chuck... Thanks I will do that. I am going to Cebu Thursday. I will be going with her to Manila for her Medical and then back to Cebu to wait for her Visa so I am sure we will need something to do to keep our minds off the mail man :0). So we can find a book to use to help teach each other. She is getting so excited. Not me though - yea right. Chuck Title: Smooth... Hey, that's great Chuck! Have a safe trip and eat some fresh ripe mangoes for me. You're going right at the end of Holy Week, so everything will probably be crowded as heck over there, but you should miss the worst of it. I hope the visa end game goes smoothly for you... I was there last year for trick or treat day, that was crouded at the cemintary, but it was interesting and different. Chuck, There is one excellent program that I can recommend and yes it has sound also. The best part is that it’s free and a lot of fun. It’s your wife :-) Seriously, why don’t you two teach each other? It can be great fun and that’s one of the best ways to learn the language. Besides learning the language, you may even get a big bonus by learning to communicate better with each other. But, first I would have a good discussion with your wife and work out a game plan, so she won’t feel bad when you constantly correct her pronunciation or usage (and vice versa). You might want to try learning one Cebuano word every day or you could switch between using English and Cebuano in your home on alternate days. Just use your imagination and find something that works for both of you and make it fun. That is good advice. They have an adult ed class here called english as a second language which she was going to go too. They were asking for people to help out teaching so I thought I would go with her and teach her. But silly me I never thought about her teaching me. :o) Thanks Title: Good Advice!
