Title: Question about Yalta hotels
Post by: Mr Robert on April 22, 2003, 04:00:00 AM
Would like some information about Yalta hotels. Are they expensive, any on the beachs, many choices, crowded in June?

Title: Thanks fellas.

I will be there in late May & early June. I was also looking for someplace quiet and on the beach. Eugene from Around Crimea website (http://club.cris.net/crimea/) suggested to me Simeiz which is in the greater Yalta area. He is going to get me the price soon of a hotel there right on the beach. He said last year for an ocean view room it was $45. He is there now and will get back to me soon.

Thanks Z!  Good price for an ocean view. Wonder how far hotel is from beach?  I will check out the website you mentioned.

Hello Mr.Robert
I am Eugene, Zoldberg told you about. I visited the hotel in Simeiz just a few days ago.
They have two kinds of the rooms: with ocean view (South)and with mountains view (North).
The prices are:
May - until June 10
North - $50
South - $60

June 10 - August 31
North - $80
South - $80

If you want I can book a room for you but let me know the dates of your visit.

Feel free to send me e-mail to info@aroundcrimea.com

Best regards,
Eugene

Mr Robert,

Eugene said the hotel is right on the beach with a private beach for guests. He will let me know more soon as he is there now. I don't think there are photo's of this hotel on his site but it does have some photo's of Simeiz. I'll let you know more as soon as I hear from him...

In July-August, the high season, it's doubtful you will get the Oreanda for less than $160, and a balcony room can run over $250.

Also, check this message string below:
http://www.planet-love.com/wwwboard/russian/messages/87805.html

Here are some approximate base prices for standard rooms in the high season, better/larger rooms can be significantly higher priced:

Oreanda
~$160

Leto
~$125

Vremena Goda
~$50

Yalta
~$40-$60

I have stayed at the Oreanda.  It is on the beach, near the town (great night life in the summer!) and is probably about $100 a night.

If you have a Russian speaking friend or guide, you could go to the bus station terminal.  There you can find people who are wanting to rent their flats for a nightly fee.  This is assuming you don't mind living a little more within the culture there.  Olga and I were able to get a flat for $25 per day, and it was only a fifteen minute walk from the downtown area of Yalta.  It wasn't western hotel standards by any means, but that doesn't bother me any.  I suppose it depends on what you want to spend, and what comforts you want.  When we were walking around downtown Yalta to find a place, cab drivers told us of places for $100 per night, no doubt they were fairly nice.  So, ask the cabbies or go to the Bus Terminal.

Hotel Yalta, once considered the grandest hotel in all the FSU, is a bit tired and Soviet-ish in appearance and amenities - BUT - it *is* big and has a loads of facilities including easy beach access.

Cost was a bit more than $100 per night in August.

Crowded? Not bad. In fact, the crowding adds to some of the 'scenery', so maybe it's not a bad thing to be a little crowded --smile--.

BTW - welcome to the board. I *think* I saw a post from you indicating you also read the RWG. Welcome aboard. I think you'll find the information here quite useful - and not so censored.

Cheers!

- Dan

Thanks Dan.  A question if I may ask. Is the Hotel Yalta within 5 minutes walk of the beach?

Your remark regarding not so censored is absolute. P-L board is not censored by comparison. We do have a few sponsors on RWG it seems we can not say anything negative about. On RWG you have a "good old boys" network, about a dozen individuals, most of whom are also moderators. If you offend any of them you are booted off. They have a link just for themselves and have heard if the good old boys decide they want to boot someone they vote on it. Enough votes and the guy is booted. Am told about 25 individuals so far on the booted off list. I like that Patrick is the only moderator. Adds a lot of appeal and overall fairness.

And now we are having a vote about forming a members only board :(   Like I'm going too pay $15 or $20 a month on RWG when I can get the same help and better information here for free!

Title: Members ONLY?!? . . .

Guess the 'net has some elitists - or exclusionists - depending on how you see it.

So what's the deal with that clique they have over there? Seems they are not at all open to criticisms expressed at anyone/anything the moderator holds sacred.

Glad Patrick makes this board available.

Dan,

Members Only!  That's what a few of us are saying also :)

Very few posters on RWG will spend anything on a monthly basis to participate. Many of the posters on RWG are here and many of P-L posters are there. You can ask the same question here and get the same answer without having to pay. Most agencies can be discussed here without a problem, not so on RWG. I think over time more men are becoming aware that they can get more truthful and real answers about various agencies and services on P-L than they can on RWG.

Don't be fooled by the number of registered posters on the RWG site, registration is required to look at what is being posted. Most people after going through the process of registering and reading the board and it's format just disappear. If you count how many regular posters we have, the men posting one year ago, 6 months ago, three months ago and today, you will see about 35 regular posters (about one third are moderators or part of the "good old boys" network). Far cry from the 2800 so called registered posters. What you will see a lot of Dan is that people who are booted or run off from P-L end up at RWG and people who Spencer boots off come to P-L.
