Title: ? about Visa to Ukraine...
Post by: Zoidberg on April 01, 2003, 05:00:00 AM
Hi... I had a quick question about the application for a Visa to Ukraine. Where it says "PURPOSE OF YOUR JOURNEY" will "personal visit" do or will I need to put more?

Thanks!
Z.

Depends on who the clerk at the consulars office feels that day.  I would be more specific.  For instance if you are going to see a specific girl then state her name and address.  If you are going to check things out then state "vacation" and use the hotel's address you will be staying at.  Although not required, if you are only going to be there for "vacation" you may want an invitation letter from the hotel to smooth things over.  It is an interesting country and the people are very nice (the girls are unbelievable) but for some reason the government seems to have this paranoia that everybody wants to move there.

Well, so does the United States.  US law presumes that anyone applying for any kind of visa intends to immigrate.  The person must disprove this assumption in order to get the visa.  That's why it's so hard to get a US tourist visa from some parts of the world.  I believe that this is why we often see questions on how to get visas for guy in-laws.

with Ukrainian visa, and there's a good few used ones in my passport now.

I always write my reasons for travel as personal visit and write mum in-law name and address as the person who invites, although I've never stayed in her flat.

The only problems the Ukrainians seem to have with (illegal)immigration is from the east and south (mainly China, Africa Iraq and Iran) and those only passing through to the EU.

Now I would be surprised if anybody from Western Europe or North America were refused a visa.

If a tourist visa; write "holiday"

If a private (personal) visa; write "personal visit"
