Title: Cash, checks, credit cards in Ukraine
Post by: Zoidberg on March 11, 2003, 05:00:00 AM
Okay guys... I need some help for my trip coming up in late May. I am going to Dnepropetrovsk for 26 days. I went to Ukraine about 9 years ago where I went to Kiev and Lugansk. At that time I had no problems using credit cards in Kiev but not in Lugansk. Also could not use my ATM card in Lugansk but had no problems in Kiev.

Does anyone know if in Dnepropetrovsk I will have any problems finding ATM's and using them? Do most restaurants and places take credit cards? I am just trying to figure out how much cash I really need to bring. As long as I can use ATM's I do not want to come loaded with cash.

Thanks!
Z

Thank you europete & yudjin51. I appreciate the help. I assumed there would be some ATM's availble but wanted to make sure. I will have enough cash to get by for awhile but I did not want to carry enough cash for 26 days.

Thanks again!
Z

In the central area of Dnepropetrovsk there are a few ATM's that one can obtain cash from, or in some of the larger hotels also, so it should not be too much of a problem. But sometimes they do not all work as they are supposed to, so have enough dollars to get by on for a few days.

Hello,
Much water past under a bridge for last 9 years. :-) You should not worry about ATM in Dnepropetrovsk - it's huge city, over 1,000,000 people, there are several banks and head office of Privat-bank - one from most famous in Ukraine. So you will easy find ATM on a street and some restaurants and shops accept a plastic cards also. Visa or Master Card are OK but not American Express card. I couldn't find a bank in Crimea last summer which accept American Express. :-( You will loose some if you will det Dollars from ATM and then change them for Grivnas so would be better get Grivnas. Any ATM gives you Grivnas but some from them give also Dollars.
I hope it help.
Best regards,
Eugene
