Title: Neither rain nor sleet nor snow...
Post by: Philb on February 28, 2003, 05:00:00 AM
Two weeks late my visa and passport miraculously re-appear.  No explanation.  Two weeks to deliver an overnight Express Mail envelope.

Was wondering how it was working out.
Maybe worth the extra $ $ to get a visa service to handle the passport.
Everything is hand delivered and Fed-Exed fast.

I have used Go to Russia (gotorussia.com) in the past for Russian Visas (they also provide visa services for most other FSU countries).  Their service was excellent.

The application process for the Ukrainian Visa is a bit easier so I did it myself.  Just make sure you insure it for the cost of expedited replacements for both the passport and the visa.  I did not do this and it would have cost me about $600.00.  Express Mail only provides no cost insurance up to $100.00.  Fortunately mine turned up.

As I understand it, that would not have helped Phil in this case.  The package was delayed AFTER it got in the hands of the delivery company.  So whether the Embassy or a service company hands-off to the delivery company, the same result could occur.

It is a very scary situation, and now it will exist for all Russian visas because they no longer allow the sending of a photo copy of the passport pages, they require sending the actual passport.

..never visa-d to Russia.
Ukraine has always required sending the actual passport.
I still recommend  a visa service.

The Pony Express got ambushed by some Arapahoe and Shoshone and we had to high tail it to Fort Washakie.
