Title: Did anyone miss me!!!!! Post by: Oatmeal on January 31, 2003, 05:00:00 AM Hello everyone,
Been away from the board for a long time. Haven't even been to this site for ages. Finally decided to browse it since my wife is asleep now. On Jan. 17th it was my wife's 1st year hear in America. Things for us have been relatively great and also a year of many changes for the both of us. In this past year we both got jobs working together for good ole Wal-Mart, We sold our house and packed up everything and moved from Kentucky to Texas, just to name a few. I still have no regrets about her. Sometimes I feel a bit guilty for having to take her away from her homeland and I feel this alot when she gets homesick or is unhappy about the social situation in America. She tells me "How does anyone ever get together here" She is right. Here in America it can be socially difficult to meet the opposite sex. Not quite the same in Russia or Ukraine. In any case we are hoping to visit her family soon and look forward to that visit. Anybody who has any hot leads on websites for cheap tickets or other tips please feel free to contribute. Thanks, Title: Suggestions to Enhance Social Interaction Post by: WmGo on February 02, 2003, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Did anyone miss me!!!!!, posted by Oatmeal on Jan 31, 2003
fwiw: Join a church. Go to the local theater and orchestra. You will meet a lot of sophisticated people there. You can even buy a membership and attend the social functions they put on. Same for museums and art galleries. Meet people at political events. Join a social or civic organization. There are thousands. Knock on your neighbors door and invite them over for a drink and ordourves (sp?) Join a billiards, bowling or card league/club. Join a volunteer organization. There are hundreds. You are only limited by your own imagination. Good luck. Of course we missed you. You had one interesting story. I am glad things are going well for you. Nothing wrong with Texas. Title: First year is the toughest Post by: SteveM on January 31, 2003, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Did anyone miss me!!!!!, posted by Oatmeal on Jan 31, 2003
Glad things are working out. My experience was that the homesickness got much better after our first trip back. If you don't mind doing Aeroflot, I have always had good luck with a NYC consolidator, Glavs Travel. My agent is Neli Hadjiyska, her email is neli@glavs.com. Please mention me if you use her.
