Title: Greencard Arrived Today !!!!
Post by: John F on January 28, 2003, 05:00:00 AM
My wife got her 10 year greencard in the mail today!  Today is also the day, three years ago, that she arrived in the USA!  What an anniversary present.  We celebrated by opening our last bottle of Massandra Muscat which she brought back with her when she visited her parents earlier this year.  Next step comes this September .... filing for naturalization.

Congratulations.

So, what does she think of the Florida weather. Did she have any difficulty adapting to it?

She often said it was hot during her first year here.  I remember April, 2000 when we were shopping and she said it was too hot.  I laughed and told her she hadn't seen hot yet, wait until July or August.  Now if a  blast of cold air drops down from Canada and the temperature drops into the 40's during the day she says it is Cold.  She didn't have a tough time adapting.

I remember that you applied back in November wasn't it?
How many days did this take?
Did you have to go back to the INS office for fingerprints etc?

I don't know the exact number of days.  Irina's conditional greencard expired Dec 8.  I took the removal of conditions packet to the postoffice on Sept. 10.  In about two weeks we got the I-797 stating they received the package and that her status was extended one year.  In early Nov. we got a letter from the Texas INS service center that our removal of conditions had been approved and for my wife to take her passport, 3 recent INS style photo's and the fee to our local INS office.  Just a day or two later on Nov. 6 we went to our INS office with everything.  They took my wife's finger print (index finger only) and wrote the adjustment on the visa in her passport.  We received the 10 year greencard Jan. 27.  The greencard is effective until Jan. 1, 2013.
