Title: Aeroflot Alternatives?
Post by: SteveM on January 04, 2003, 05:00:00 AM
Hey folks,

I have in the past defended using Aeroflot, but worsening lateness problems (6 hours for my mother-in-law coming over last month, 5 hours on the return flight yesterday) make me unlikely to use them again.  Any advice on other airlines that have better records, but still fairly low prices?

It is all how you catch them and where you are going.  I think the more direct flights the better off you are.  I have had good results with JFK to Moscow on both Delta and Aeroflot.  For flying within Russia I have had good results on Aeroflot.  For flying to Ukraine I like Austrian Airlines.  Just get a few discount travel agents working for you as well as search the internet.  Travel light and bring alot of reading materials with you in your carry on bag.

Steve,
Even tho we run into Ruskies every where, there is no real Russian community here as in other cities.  I will definately be in the minority in two weeks when the in laws arrive.

The seats are cramped.

And I hear they hire inferior pilots :-)

But you can usually get a good price on them.

Of the main American carriers, Delta has always been my LEAST favorite to fly.

Have you tried some of the european sites for ionline tickets. Sometimes you can get some deals on them. I used to have all of them somewhere...

How do I find some of these foreign sites?  I plan to spend a week in Paris, and go to Kazan.  (Lufthansha is dropping their flight from Kazan to Frankfurter in March!)

About all I can do is try to find something from Paris to Kazan (or probably Moscow and take the train.)

I used to have a bunch of them.

There was one really good site that was kind of like e-bay for flights. The selection was just what they had, but the prices were cheap. I wish I had that one, but I can't seem to find it now...

But here is one I found in my bookmark pages:

.....At least they don't hire puzzies who are so insecure they can't stop boasting like a child about their "belongings". A woman whose time to screw him (among others) was only exceeded by her time to consent marriage to a man whose current euphoria is obviously proportional to his prior desperation. A man with two failed marraiges who brags of his current "success" after being married a month. A man who learned nothing from those experiences and now marries, in record time, a woman known by others to have lied repeatably to his face. How many other men here talk about their wives in lingere, or babble on like fools in an effort to convince the world they have something no one else does? How many? As if you have something special to brag about. Only makes me wonder just who you're tryin to convince. A poor excuse for a man, it's no wonder you had to settle for someone else's reject.

Sure, I'll let it slide...but next time I'm gonna pull your wings off.

Just because all he talks about is buing lingerie, looking at his wife naked in the hot tub and buying "long black completely backless dresses complete with gloves", doesn't mean they can't have a very deep meaningful, spiritual relationship right? :-)

I mean, you can marry a girl within one week of her getting here and still know what you are doing right??  Doesn't mean there is any desperation or anything..  I think tax purposes are a very reasonable thing to marry someone for.  I don't know why you would have a problem with any of this...

Sometimes I just don't get you LP...  ;-)

...lol, almost had me there. I was gonna unwind on you before it I read it again...duh! Complete with gloves?? Well then, that makes it ok. ;-)

I don't care about him, he's made his bed. I don't know whats more nauseating to me, reading his stuff or seeing  the positive responses to it. I'll call it The "Jerry Springer Syndrome", a mirroring on the quality of some men involved in MOB. And to think the public tends to lump us all into that group....arggh!

As pathetic as he is he oughta know better than to insult a pilot's skills, our massive yet frail egos are simply unable to handle that. ;-) The typical PAX, if he's not happy he's always free to get out and walk. And if he thinks he can do better (assuming it's not stooping too low for a sales guy), he's welcome to amble up to the front office and show us how it's done. Maybe he can just BS the ground out of the way.

Yeah thats the ticket, just come on up and start pullin on the door, I'd like that.....

Well, even being warned by other guys about a woman, some guys are just determined to walk into that wall anyway.. ;-)

You are correct, he's made his bed (as that seems to be all he can focus on right now).  That will pass and then reality will eventually set in and THAT is when he will stop posting here.

As Jack mentioned, he had posted numerous times that when his girl got here, nobody would ever hear from him here again, etc., yadda, yadda, yadda..  Wonder what happened?
Maybe he's bored already?

...the baby Glock is much better. Or the new Walther P99 may be good too. The Sigs are just too big for CCW. Btw, I was refering to the James Bond connection with the PPK. I needed something small framed and limited to frangible rounds, which are hard to come by in the 380 anyway.

There are lots of small framed 9MMs around. Anything will work as long as it's comfortable and can be relied on to cause lead poisoning when needed. I prefer the Glock from a weight standpoint and I've owned it for some years. I also have a chromed Walther P38 but thats a pretty hefty (not to mention rare) piece for CCW.

LP,
Of course I know the Bond connection.  I never said it wasn't cool.  I was disappointed in the quality and why would one own a gun that wasn't trustworthy?  I loved my Colt.

The PPK is a 380 isn't it?  In 1995 I imported from Germany a Walther PP in 32 caliber.  Now I know that is a very small caliber but a friends Father when I was growing up had one from WW2 he had taken from a German officer.  It was the funnest little gun to shoot, I swore (I was about 10 at the time) that I would buy one someday.  In 1995 I bought one of 10 imported that year and it cost $990 from Walther!  I know it's not a huge defense gun etc., but I love it.  It's never jammed and is the most accurate little thing I have ever owned.  32 Cal was always a very popular european round.
