Title: Ever flown these airlines ?
Post by: John F on January 07, 2003, 05:00:00 AM
Has anyone ever flown Uzbekistan Airways or Air Ukraine (NOT Ukraine International)?  I have flown Air Ukraine, but only a hop from Simferopol to Kiev.  Both of these airlines have non-stop flights from Kiev to New York.  I'm wondering about service, reliability, comfort, etc...

Uzbekistan Airways does not have baggage transfer agreements with all airlines.  This means that you can not check your luggage all of the way through by showing both tickets.

Although I have not flown Uzbekistan Airways, I have verified this because I was seriously considering doing this. (I did not do this because I found a cheaper ticket where I did not have to switch airlines.) Another member of this forum has reported actually experiencing this problem, however, I can not find his post in the archive.

Just a work to the wise: allow enough time to recheck your luggage in New York.

I had to buy tickets from two different sources, one for each leg.  Neither agent would issue tickets that included a transfer from another airline to Uzbekistan Airlines or vice versa.

Title: Question to John F

John, you mentioned below going to airport website and finding list of incoming flights.

How do you do this?  For instance, I would like to find out where flights originate from (probably within europe) that arrive into some smaller european cities.  Once I know where the flights originate from (within europe), then I can look for flights from USA to that intermediate city.

Thanks much,

JR

http://www.airport-borispol.kiev.ua/timetable/ is a link to one of the sites that contains schedule information.  It can be slow to load at time.

I found it on google by searching flights boryspil.  flights borispol also works.

I have tried pricing tickets to western europe and a second ticket into Kiev.  I did not produce any bargains this way, and often it was much more expensive than a ticket from the US to Kiev and back.

I have often found a cheaper ticket by using what is know as an "open jaw" ticket.  I live in South Florida which makes it easy to leave from Fort Lauderdale and return to Miami.  (I've got a friend who will go all way to Miami for gas money and diner at his favorite Cuban restaurant.)

Go to the JFK airport website.  You will see a number of dropdown boxes.  Select "Flight Schedules" from the dropdown box "Airlines at JFK".  You shold be here ... http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/oagframe.HTM

Now select if you are interested in incoming or outgoing flights, origination or destination city, and date.

I simply put checked the lower box, "Flights to New York City Airports", entered "Kiev" as origination city, and experimented with a range of dates.

Good Luck!

I got the same information directly from the Frankfurt airport website.  I got it from the Boryspil website, but it appeared to be down and I found a departure schedule here ... http://www.ts.kiev.ua:8101/kiev/transpor/air/time.htm

This list is how I found the non-stop from Kiev to New York, which sent me to the JFK site.

I think if you are interested in a particular city, the airport will be the place to look for a complete arriving / departing flight schedule rather than a ticket agent.

Thanks, I just checked that out.  However, doesn't quite do it since it requires you enter departure and arrival airport.

There are just an unlimited number of cities to check on a trial and error basis if you need to enter both cities.

My question is:  I want to know where flights come from that arrive in a city that I will specify.

That does the trick for US cities and 10 or so large foreign cities.

Now, if they just had such a source for medium cities in eastern europe and the eastern mediterranean area.

Thanks Jski for your help above and beyond the call of duty.

Title: Is a change in the works?

John,

My family and I have flown Uzbekistan JFK to Kiev several times and have been satisfied.  Our most recent trip was last August.

However, my travel agent tells me that this flight will be replaced with a similar flight on Aerosvit.  I am uncertain as to when the switch will occur.  Of course, we are speaking of Ukraine, so what is planned today may be changed by towmorrow.  As of a few weeks ago, Aeroswit had not yet leased the 767 for this route.  I haven't seen prices for the flight, but I understand that the Friday, Sunday, and Tuesday departures from JFK would remain the same.
While I am always watching the web for airfares, I usually end up purchasing through ECVO Tours in Manhattan.  If you are interested in booking an eastern european airline, you might want to consider working with a specialist travel agency.

Good Luck,

Dan D.

It is a code share flight.  The JFK schedule shows it with a star.  Funny as I thought Air Ukraine had just acquired some 767's.  I'll e-mail the Field Service Rep tomorrow and ask.  Here's the info:

Flight: 6U 102
Airline: Air Ukraine
Operated by: Uzbekistan Airways
Depart: New York J F Kennedy International Apt
Terminal: Terminal 4
Departure Time: 18:00, Friday 10 January 2003
Arrive: Kiev Borispol Apt
Terminal: B (International)
Arrival Time: 10:35, Saturday 11 January 2003
Stops: Non-Stop
Travel Time: 575 minutes or 9hrs 35mins

I thought Air Ukraine's flight to New York was just a code share with Uzbekistan's flight.  ???????

It's possible.  The Boryspil website seems to be down.  I got these by going to the JFK website and searching for incoming flights from Boryspil.  It returned both and they seemed to have the same schedule .... that seems odd, why would they show both?

So, how's Uzbekistan Airways?

scammer.net does not appear to be any more commercial than planet-love.

That I can see, they are not selling anything... merely offering a forum for discussion...

But, of course, I can understand why that would upset you, Dan...

I wasn't making any comment about channels of discussion...

You just seem to jealously guard a certain agency owner's right to post commercials while crying foul when you see anyone else do it...

And, frankly... "scammer" does not seem guilty of it... so your "commercial!" complaint seemed even more obvious this time than those who complained about, say, Anastasia...

Never flew them, but looked at the flights.

They code share and can both sell tickets on the same flight.  The one who sells it under their name gets a bigger protion of the fare usually.  The carrying airline will get the majority of the fare.....
