Is this related to your post of 12/10? It said "The best odds lie in living there. I've been studying lots of ways to support oneself there, and maybe I've hit on an idea that will appeal to many here, whether you want to live there or not." I read that with interest since I had been entertaining similiar thoughts, and I was curious to see what you would come back with. Care to fill us in on the details? Title: Thanx, all... for your replies. Yes, it is related somewhat to my earlier post. Yes, it would be a major undertaking. Basically, I am looking at starting a nonprofit org to assist families in povertty with housing, health, education, and self sufficiency issues. This is similar to some orgs that are already in existance, but with a new interesting twist. It will take a considerable amount of time and effort on the behalf of several people to make it work. In the end, it should be very rewarding to all involved. Everyone would be welcome to join in whatever way they are capable depending on thier own resources, time, etc. I still need an hour or two of a good corporate lawyers time. No, this is not a get rich scheme. I'll elaborate more when I'm better educated. Larry. Part of the twist, and a major factor in why I think it will work, is that the DONORS get to pick exactly where, to whom, and for what they want there money to go to. Still a long ways from having the research ready to go public with yet. When it is, I'll advertise it on numerous websites, then will schedule an open forum for all to attend. All for now! Larry. Larry, It is heartwarming to note your concern for our less fortunate brothers. Presently, there are several non-governmental organizations (NGO), usually funded by foreign organizations, undertaking livelihood projects in barrios. Assistance are in the form of financial, technical know-how, and sometimes finding markets for their products. When I was into aquarium business, I got involved in a project assisting fishermen (we called them badjaos) diving for marines fishes. The NGO, thru its foreign funding, provided, the site, aquarium facilities for storing of fishes caught prior to marketing abroad. Of course, there are other organizations, strictly giving out medical, dental assistance thru medical missions usually tied up with local charitable organizations like Rotary, Lions, and other religious organizations. I wish you the best on this worthwhile endeavor. rgg Title: Re: Calling all lawyers!!! Sounds like perhaps you're talking about setting up a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization. This IRS designation allows contributors in the US to deduct their contribution to your non-profit organization. This is important to the big donors, without it they will send their dollars elsewhere. Check this general information link from the IRS: Title: Re: Calling all lawyers!! WOW , what a monumental task that would be Larry, You're all heart. Just don't forget the story about teaching a man to fish rather than giving the fish to him. Hope your endevours go well. Guess the biggest questions would be: 1.) Who/m do you plan to get your donations from? I think the majority of the country lives in poverty so you may have to narrow your givings. |
