Title: Want warm place to meet Russian girlfriend Post by: Stevee on November 12, 2001, 05:00:00 AM Hello,
I spent 6 weeks in Russia and the Ukrain on a 4 city tour last summer and wanted to know somewhere that the my girlfreind and I could fly to out of the country this winter that will easily except both Russian and American citizens, that has summer tempatures,is fairly inexpensive to fly to and vacation at. Also a tourist agency. I feel this would be a good way for us to get to know each other better before I decide on marriage.I could have her pick up the ticket at the airport and meet her at the destination. Any suggestions about this subject such as earlier posts on this site or other websites, ect. would greatly appreciated. Tourist Visa, flights from Moscow to Mexico City aren't too expensive. Can fly there to almost any decent size city or resort in Mexico. Stevee - I am trying the same process you are now mentioning, and for your RW to go to most european countries will require a Shengen Visa. If she has certain ties which increase her chances of returning, i.e., child, decent job, owns property or has been out of the country before, maybe her chances are fairly good. The *snafu* is that there is no guarantee and they can only apply a few weeks before they intend to depart and what makes matters worse, will only know 2-3 days before departure whether the visa has been granted. No risk on their part, but if you have already booked tickets and accomodation, it could get ugly. Cyprus, which was mentioned earlier sounds as good a place as any, climate is mild even during winter months, and if RW's don't require visas (saves you $200 off the bat) and no worries as to getting her there would be a good choice. I would recommend Malta. It is a wonderful warm place and no visa required to enter the country (you buy the visa on the board). It is not as cheap as Turkey but not as expensive as Cyprus. Good luck, Tootsie Title: Re: Re: Want warm place to meet Russian girlfriend Post by: micha1 on November 13, 2001, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Want warm place to meet Russian girl..., posted by Tootsie on Nov 13, 2001
this post I really love, tootsie, sorry if I was harsh earlier. You save me a lot of problems and probably money with this suggestion of yours. If I were close to you, as a thank you, " je t'offrirais une perle de pluie, venue de pays ou il ne pleut pas". Get real lucky micha Title: Peace, micha :) n/t Post by: Tootsie on November 13, 2001, 05:00:00 AM Title: All the countries... ...metioned below are good. Turkey is another good choice. I met and spent two weeks with a Russian girl in Greek Cyprus last April. It does rain a bit in the winter, but it's not bad and there will be none of the masses of tourists present during summer. The spring and fall are the best times to visit, it's one non stop party through the summer. She will have no problems going to Cyprus, no visa required, but they sometimes ask to be sure she has enough cash to support herself. Many Russians vacation in Cyprus, there are many Russians living and working there and many resturants have Russian menus and food. In addition, I can vouch for the legendary hospitality of Cypriots are *very* friendly folks and almost all speak good English. This, coupled with the large Russian population makes it easy for everyone involved. Cyprus remains divided, with the South being Greek. (The capital of Nicosia is the last divided city on Earth, after the Berlin wall came down.) Lots of history and archealogical sites, that wonderful Med Any questions, just ask. Cyprus again? Vacation or meet a FSU lady again? Which one if so? Title: Forgot to mention.... Post by: LP on November 13, 2001, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to All the countries..., posted by LP on Nov 12, 2001
...one issue with your requirements. Cyprus is not such a cheap place to vacation. The Cypriot pound is one of the few currencies that is worth more than the USD. In April one Cypriot pound exchanged for 70 cents US, so it'll be a tad spendy. I spent about $1500 US while there, but I fly for free so it wasn't too bad. Your airfare will be about $1000 round trip, more if you cover her costs. Hey, no one said this was gonna be cheap....... The major task for you is to get your girlfriend somewhere outside Russia. Americans can go pretty much anywhere. Russians unfortunate can not. I would recommend contacting Russian travel agency and asking them where your girlfriend can go and what are her chances of getting visas. Often travel agencies get visas for their clients, you just have to pay extra and you are buying “a travel package”. Italy, Spain, Greece, Cyprus sound good in winter. I once had been told that Italy is not so receptive to Russian/Ukrainian Visa requests. Are you sure about Italy and thus this information given to me was incorrect? Title: Shengen... Post by: Tootsie on November 13, 2001, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Italy?, posted by thesearch on Nov 13, 2001
There is no problem to get a visa to Italy, it just requires money and time. I was in Italy this year, visa was about $90 and 10 working days (2 weeks). In order to get the visa it's not necessary to have assets or travel history. But I would still recommend Malta - so much better and cheaper. Last time my friends paid $400 each for the trip there (flight tickets and a hotel for one week with breakfast). Not very expensive in my opinion. Tootsie Title: Re: Shengen... Could you check with more of your friend please that would know of somethig more tropical.Central America,Egypt,Caribbean,Viet Nam,Thailand,Cuba,Mexico,Sri Lanka ect. although something located between our two countrys would probably be the cheapest.I heard that maybe the Bahamas? Have your lady call a travel agent where she lives. There are two reasons to possibly have her do this. The first is that since these travel agencies have to deal with these issues on a regular basis, they not uncommonly can give your lady excellent information about possible destinations where she will not have any troubles getting a visa. Secondly, The exact same accomodations, she may be able to get a much better rate than you. Rates quoted to Ukrainian and Russians can be much lower than for American agencies with certain destinations. Turkey can be very inexpensive. Less than $200 per day inclusive. Inclusive means all meals and and beverages including alcoholic are included in that price. Excellent food and great variety available. Buffets like Las Vegas. |
