Title: Emails as proof? Post by: capt david on December 30, 2002, 05:00:00 AM I have been Emailing my sweety for five months and have made a copy of every one of them, over 200 pages. Her response is at the top to my letter on the bottom. Will this suffice for documentation or do I need to have snail mail also? I have time as I am not going until june. Thanks, capt david

…that one of the main things they are looking for is evidence that your relationship is for real and not just a set-up marriage to get someone into the country. Yes, it does happen. They are looking for the date when your correspondence started and evidence that there is an ongoing relationship. They like to see the first letters and at least a good sampling from throughout the correspondence period. The advantage of snail mail letters in the original envelope is that there is an official postmark that helps verify dates. The INS and State Dept people are aware that e-mail and on-line chat is replacing the old fashioned letter method of correspondence, so they will take that into account. Also, be aware that they just may read all those letters you submit, so be careful which ones you give them. It’s not very likely that they will read them all, but it’s happened before and could be quite embarrassing. If there are any letters or cards sent between you and your fiancée’s family, and vice-versa, that would be a big help also. Capt David, I also had many emails only as proof.I'm too impatient for snail mail.Anyway, when Joy brought them to St Lukes the lady there questioned why there was no regular letters and implied there might be a problem.She said letters were more valid than email.Of course,this threw Joy in a tizzy which I believe was the ladies intention.She wanted me to start writing a letter a day and we would submit them later.I told her email was fine and don't worry.This proved correct and we got the visa.My advice though is forget the ecards and send a couple of Hallmarks.Emails or letters is a minor detail along the K1 road. tito Matt Title: Re: Emails as proof? Wife had all that. Interviewed by 3 people. Didn't have to show any of that. Went really quick. Best to have as much documentation as possible just in case. Title: Re: Emails as proof? Emails are not specifically mentioned in the rules. They look at letters. I made sure I sent a couple of cards to Tess each month....then I added the copies of emails we had. Notice that I gave them snail mail...but backed that up with the email. Even though email is not the kind of proof they mention....it does show that you have been corresponding. Hope this helps.
