Of course you should get a load of the Chief she has the self control of a meter maid. She spent twenty years working on the force in safe jobs and the Chiefs staff while she was going to law school and was married to a commander. She extended an entire academy class because they did not call the room to attention when she entered it. I think she watched too much hollywood and was so insulated in her career she did not understand the department is a SEMI military organization. Feminazis in action!! Of course there is the thirty five year old mayor who was just re elected for his second term in office. There are so many abandoned homes you could build an airport for 747's on the east side of the city. Detroit is a good place to be FROM.jimc PS The city is on the verge of Bankruptcy, but we never let them touch the money in our pension fund. They should take a tip from GM and lay off the lazy leeches in the city administration. Michigan is starting to look really bad with Delphi bankruptcy and GM and Ford not doing well themselves. The place that looked scary and would make for great horror flicks is the zug island regions, downriver, with near ghost towns. This whole subject is a bit off topic but I was born and raised in St. Louis. In my job I travel to almost every area of the city. I live in one of the best ares in St. Louis but have lived and worked other places. If St. Louis is really that bad then the rest of the USA must be like a dream. I think almost every city has a bad area and most people know where not to go. St. Louis is a fairly large city with a little bit if everything. In Lima I stayed with my novia in her familys house in an area thats considered "not for gringos" and never had an ounce of problem. So much for the theory that gringos should never go outside of Miraflores and Barranco. I dont know why they feel the need for these lists anyway. I kind of wondered about this, because the article I read online didn't give ANY details about how these ratings were formulated. I don't know how it's supposed to reflect on the majority of us who just mind our own business and stay out of trouble. Maybe there's a lot of drug/gang activity that skews the numbers but doesn't usually affect normal people? I was in St. Louis for over a week this month, left a pimp-daddy rock star bus out on the street every night with the luggage doors unlocked and it was never broken into; walked around at all hours downtown with no problems. Lived near Detroit for a while, worked downtown for part of that time and never even felt threatened there. Spent time in Richmond on another tour last summer with no problem, even hauling a suitcase through downtown at midnight...spend a lot of time around Atlanta...does the New Orleans rating reflect Katrina? I was there for six weeks in the aftermath, jogged around several times downtown late at night and even up Tulane Avenue, which in normal times is a death wish. Only danger was stepping on broken glass or getting in trouble for breaking curfew. Meanwhile in my safe, pristine Seattle a Boeing engineer gets shot in the head at a stoplight on his way to work because someone wanted his new Mustang. So in Colombia, how does that affect a Gringo who just goes and doesn't step on anyone's tail, doesn't try to hit on a narcotraficante's girlfriend, etc.? |
