Post by: Calipro on May 12, 2005, 04:00:00 AM
Not mentioning any names of course, but someone on the board contacted a young lady that was in my album. She just sent me an e-mail so I called her up and we had a little chat.

It turns out he was in Cali and wanted to go with this girl but she kept blowing him off and saying that she was busy with work and such. She doesn't hate the guy in fact she thinks he is a nice guy but she just isn't attracted to him in a sexual way.

Just for the record, I hadn't talked to this girl since December. So why anyone that wanted to make it with this girl would bring my name up is beyond me. But they did. They mentioned that they saw her picture in one of my albums and proceded to whine about why she wouldn't go out with him.

Personally I never tried the whinin, cryin approach to picking up on women so if you are reading this let us know how it turned out. hehehe!

Anyway thanks for putting me back in contact with her. Last I heard she was engaged to be married but now I understand she is available again!

Come on Calipro, Cali's a very small world.  You know very well that when you put your photo collection up for all to see, there's going to be some gringos here who know some of these gals.  I don't think it's so odd for a gringo to make a comment to the girl that he'd seen her photo on Calipro's website.  I mean really, what do you expect?

I personally think you like all the attention your photos give you!  (-:

Cali James

I do think it is odd and rather pathetic that someone would use my photos for leverage to try and get one of these women to go out with him.

The guy actually contacted two women in my albums. One actually called me from Cali not because she was concerned that someone saw her in my albums but because he told her that I had fifty girls in under wear in them and she wanted to know if it was true. hehehe !!! I just hate to see a guy trying to use the strategy of putting me down to some how get in good with some chick. Personally I do not think he has a snow balls chance in hell with either one of them;-)

Hey there Bueller,

Welcome Gringo!  I'm glad to see you made it back safe and it sounds like things are going well for you.  Mark my words though, sometime this winter you will be missing those warm sunny beaches and beautiful women and want to be back. Yeah, we have the better brewskies here in the NW but "they" have the ladies. Maybe a trip south might be what the Doc ordered come those gray drizzly skies. ;-)

Speaking of fine crafted ales, I might recommend a few to you, as you were gone so long and knowing you like to indulge a wee bit.

•MacTarnahan's Blackwatch, an excellent cream porter. (Way better than Guinness)

•Deschutes Brewery's Cinder Cone, a fine red ale and last but not least;

•Deschutes Brewery's Quail Springs IPA, a nice English style beer but best served cold on a hot day.

We would love to hear more about that northern Brazil trip if so inclined and as time allows.

Hi Pablo, looks like time will allow. I've been in contact with four companies, three of whom offered me a job right away. The fourth (you know the one) is the one I really want to work for, and my final interview went quite well, but then the owner took off to Tahiti for two weeks without making a decision. So I have about ten days now of just waiting (doesn't make sense to take another job, since others at the company say I'm definitely in the running).

My first day back, I went out for a Mexican lunch, since neither Spain nor Brazil have any Mex to speak of. Ordered a Red Hook with it (it's all they had), and WOW, beer with flavor! What a concept! Tasted like the nectar of the gods. I will try Pablo's Picks in due time.

I knew you'd be hitting the Mex food and cervesa!

I forgot one other beer recommendation that sounds like a strange flavor combination but is remarkably very good:

•Pyramid's Apricot Ale (yes, I admit it...I drank this beer)

Do you still have my number?  Give me a call.

I used to drink Pyramid Apricot ale in the US.Sounds strange but a bartender talked me in to trying it.
Also, very different but the first beer to get me in to microbreweries,Blue Moon,a white ale. Before that I was a coors drinker but once I got used to the heavier beers it tastes like water. Then I got in to heiffenwisens with a slice of lemon. But all these beers probably alot more calories than normal beer. Then I got in to Coronas with lime while in Colombia, kept that up in the states for awhile. Then I switched to Pacificos with lime.
Here in Colombia I drink Costena with a slice of lime. Its a little heavier than the other beers but good with lime.I like it better than Corona for 40% the price.
In Colombia we have a brewery cafe called Palo De Maguir.
I like thier lightest beer,I forget the name.I never did  like the dark specialty beers. The food is good in Bogota at this cafe but not very good here in Cali. And the service sucks here, probably because I sit out front and they can't see you from inside the cafe. They also play old movies inside.
I would think they would have one in Medellin.

I had a burrito and wrap joint. I may go back and do it again in about three years, or I may not; I rather like the U.S., and am not sure if I really want to go back to Brazil to live. My social life was never better than in Brazil, and the beaches around Floripa are great and the city itself is quite liveable, but I may want to just plant roots in the U.S. and stay here. Also, I tend to like the truly latina look of the women of other parts of Latin America, and there are a lot of Asian women where I live now. To each his own, but for the most part I find women from both groups to be at least as attractive as the average brasileira.

I've got some time to think about things, but next year I may well take a swing through Colombia to see what all the fuss is about, and while down that way I may well take a swing through Manaus myself and see a lady friend there.

What part of the North do you like? I have previously said nice things about Maceio, but last month I took a trip to the Northeast to take a last look around, and wasn't impressed  at all. I had been kicking around the idea of living in Maceio upon returning to Brazil, but the minute I arrived I concluded emphatically, "No way; uh-uh." It has pretty beaches, and nothing else. I don't know what I was thinking before. I didn't like what I saw of Salvador, Recife, Lauro de Freitas, Ilheus, or Itabuna, either; the poverty is just really hard to take, and there are nowhere near as many pretty women as in Floripa. Maragogi, Alagoas

http://www.maragogionline.com.br/galeria3.htm

is really nice, though only as a vacation spot (very small). After visting the Northeast, Florianopolis looked REALLY nice when I got back.

when I said north , I meant just north of Rio . Salvador . I know the poverty is just unbelieveable  . My brasileira has no hot water in there home . Only what they heat on the stove . There little town has like 2-3 computers ... I would like to spend time in the amazon ... for now I just enjoy her company and wait for a visa to get approved . I have told many people comparing Brazil to Colombia is like comparing Colombia to the US ... do you agree ?????? not about the ladies but the country in general .... there are a few very rich people , hardly any middle class and the rest surviving day to day ..........

Well, I've never been to Colombia, so I can't compare-- that's sort of the reason for my wanting to go there. After last month's trip to the Northeast, I felt a certain anger about Brazil; so much attention given to Carnaval, partying and useless holidays, while so much of its population lives in squalor.

The U.S. has its problems, of course, as does any country. Two that immediately stood out to me after five years abroad (two in Spain, three in Brazil) were lots of obesity, and we just own so damned much STUFF. I myself have accumulated more than 500 CDs in the past ten years-- and what for? How am I going to listen to 500 CDs? I started collecting classical CDs , and didn't know when to say when. Sheesh, they're free at the library. Of course the Spanish and Brazilian ones were worth it since they're not available here. So far I'm very resistant to get back into the mode of accumulating stuff (aided by the fact that I have nothing to spend right now) :-), and I want to stay in the habit of thinking twice before spending on things I don't need.

Have not been down there in several years. Did you not use an agency at all? Looking for more info. re: Bogota. Have been there many times in past. My favorite city in Colombia. Desire to return soon. Recommendations on agencies in Bogota would be welcome. I know the hotels, restaurants, etc. Seems many of the guys on this forum are focused on Cali and Barranquilla. Whining in spanish is an art practiced by certain TV comedian characters.Seems latins think these whining guys are funny so you will often see them as an adjunct latin comedy shows. There whole demeanor is whine.
Reminds me of a latino architect that used to design projects we would review at my former city job.He had this whining help me out here type demeanor. One time he had a little project with about 4 parking spaces that he didn't have room to fit in by normal standard. He wanted a minor concession to make it fit.Since it deviated from our normal requirements we decided if anybody was going to tell him yes it would have to be our boss.So we called the boss out,who was in a good  mood and said OK,what the hell, its minor. The guy was happy as hell. After he left my co worker told the boss I thought he was going to kiss you when you told him yes.We laughed like hell. Our secretary, also latina couldn't stand the guy.She said thats not a spanish accent, its a spanish whine.

Last time someone called her about my pictures, I suppected the usual suspects and sent beenthere a completely nude photo of her to see if I could get a rise out of him. He could have cared less. Besides beenthere would probably rather die than use the line "I see you went to San Andres with Calipro. Why won't you go with me?". The guy we are dealing with is pathetic.

I had to promise not to name names so she would tell me who he was. If the culprit comes forward I will verify that he is in fact the one. If he keeps up with these childish games however, I'm going to have to ask Ricardo to kick him out of allcolombiangirls.
