as someone metioned previously, you should probably get a spyware killer installed as well. Maybe one of your guests will be experienced in PC's and can set you up. There is a free program called Ad-aware. It is pretty good, however, the free version only runs manually - you can't set it up for automatic scans. Go to www.download.com and search for ad-aware. When the results come back, choose the "ad-aware SE personal edition" selection and go from there. I'm assuming you have virus protection that you keep updated.......... Speaking of free anti-spyware programs, Microsoft Windows has a new beta version out. http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx Title: Re: How do I get f- - king yahoo off my computer? Now that you've gotten rid of it, don't get it again. This varies from system to system (Windows 98, 2000, XP, Unix, whatever) but basically, set up two accounts (users) for the computer. Yourself (or since you're not too computer literate, a guru friend who you trust) as 'administrator' and one for everybody else as 'restricted user' or 'guest' (again, the exact name of the 'guest' account varies with system). Only the administrator can install new programs (such as Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger and the like). If your guest tries to install Yahoo or whatever else, he'll get a message telling him that he can't, but, assuming that your guru sets things up right, the guest can still use regular old internet browsers (such as IE) to check their email, read PL or check out their online bank account or what ever they need to do, WITHOUT permanently adding junk that you don't want. ...even better yet: Next time direct your guests to the nearest Internet cafe :-) Title: Re: Good advice, but... Post by: Pete E on March 25, 2005, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Good advice, but..., posted by Ray on Mar 25, 2005
The computer is one of the benefits of staying here.I guess I either need to set it up like he says or tell people to remove it when they leave.I do have 4 internet connections.2 of the 3 guys here now brought lap tops to just connect to a cable in their room. [This message has been edited by doombug] Control Panel; Add/Remove Programs. Zap it and its accompanying files there.

It sounds like Yahoo Messenger. You can uninstall it from the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs Screen. Ray Title: Thanks, hope that speeds things up Post by: Pete E on March 24, 2005, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: How do I get f- - king yahoo off my ..., posted by Ray on Mar 24, 2005

Get a spyware removal program. You've probably got a lot of crap on your system if many different people are using it. |
