i'm curious to know how you guys have gone about this. have you proposed in her country or did you bring her here under K1 and ask her here? if in her country did you first ask her parents for their blessing? where did you pop the question? was she alone or did you do it in front of the family? did you get down on one knee? how romantic were you guys?

Technically, you can't bring her here on a K-1 and then ask her, because she has to agree to marry you, and submit a sworn statement to la migra that says so as one of the requirements of getting the K-1.

I asked mine in the living room of her house, with one of her children present and filming the whole thing. I didn't ask her parents (her father is deceased anyway and she didn't live with her mother). I was sitting in a chair and she was sitting sideways across my legs, facing me.

I strongly advise asking her parents' blessing if she still lives with them and/or has never been married before.

Wait a minute, if you're needing to ask this question, I suspect that congradulations will soon be in order, keep us posted and best of luck.

not too soon but lets just say that if everything goes as planned i will be marrying my girlfriend, we're giving ourselves some more time, i have to fly down some more so we can get to know each other, experience the good and the bad because we all have our faults and we both want to be sure but as far as i'm concerned...she's the one and i know she feels the same about me. thanks

JK,
I proposed to her in her country (Medellin, Colombia) and I proposed after we took a walk along the river in Medellin.  It was Christmas time so all the lights were on the river and it was a beautiful scene.  I asked her at the end of our walk where it was less crowded and a little more romantic.  It was just her and I and afterwards we took a walk to the parque de los pies descalzos to admire the beautiful scenery.

The next day was spent visiting all the relatives and telling everyone about the engagement.  I can speak Spanish (although not as fluent as I would like) so talking with the family was not a problem.

Well that sums it all up.

Regards,
Nikkyo

Nikkyo,

Do you have photos of those Christmas lights along the river?  I have some if you want to get nostalgic.

I asked my novia to marry me in Cartagena in January. Before we flew from Bogota to Cartagena we visited her parents where I asked their permission to marry their daughter. Upon approval any much crying on her parents part we departed. A few days into our trip after a nice day at the beach I made her dinner and after dinner I proposed on the balcony over looking the ocean she was very happy. I had put her wedding ring in some Lime Gelatin that she enjoys we also had an inside joke about it so while she was eating her jello she stumbled upon her ring. I did have to keep a close eye on her because I did not want her choking on it, since it was quite dark on the balcony. I was thinking about a restaurant or the Historic part of Cartagena, but with limited Spanish skills I chose a more private moment. The more romantic or unique the better. The Latinas love romance and they want a nice story to tell like any other woman, but this one will be much more appreciative than your typical Chica Gordita Americana.
