...are going well.  From what I've read, I'm the only person who attempted to teach his wife to drive himself.  Since I'm a teacher, I have a great deal of patience and she can now drive a standard with only a few minor problems.  We're about a month away from her taking the driving test.  I'm in no hurry.

Life is getting more and more routine after about ten weeks.  She speaks a little English and seems anxious to work at it.  She works weekends at a Mexican bar where she doesn't need to speak English.  It's got tons of security and is five minutes from here so I pick her up when she gets off work.

She takes care of the house and me very nicely.  The only problems I have are the three of them (wife and two daughters) are so close that sometimes I am not that important.  But she isn't running around with other men or wasting my money so I guess it's a trade off.

Certainly if I had gome to LA for a subservient wife who would follow my every whim, this didn't work out.  I have a hot wife who I can trust but if I want anything, I need to ask nicely.

... in response to the driving lessons..., posted by kented on Feb 28, 2005

I taught my first wife (from Costa Rica) in a 1980 Datsun 210 with a 5 speed. She's only had one wreck (about 2 years ago, her fault, totaled her 1995 Honda Civic) and she still drives a 5 speed today. Martha is still 'not ready for prime time' with her driving, she's only done empty parking lots with me, but she has driven her girl friend's Ford PU (automatic) on side streets a couple of times. A couple of years ago, one guy (the old timers will remember this) bought his wife a brand new car and she drove it through the side of his house trying to move it into the garage, but I can't remember if he 'taught' her himself or if he had sent her to a driving school.

Glad to see that things are going so well for you two. Don't worry about her being too close to her children, at least your step daughters are here, mine are still in Colombia (couldn't get visas, over 21) and that's been REALLY hard on Martha-count your blessings that your wife has her daughters with her.

I know who you're talking about (totally a new car and half his garage) and he used a driving school.  I live on the west end of Phoenix and my wife and I went further west on country roads.

In about a month of practicing, she is now driving in traffic in a 5 speed.  she sin';t as smooth as she will be eventually but she can drive fairly well.  She just hasn't encountered any emergency situations yet and when they come along, it might be a little trick for her.

I want her to get a lot of practice befiore we take her driving test.  I have more patience that money so I taught her myself and she has learned rather quickly.
