Hey guys,
I got a restaurant question for you.  You know how we are all talking about what me might learn about a lady based on what restaurant she wants to go to; especially on a first date?  Well, I am planning to see a chica soon in Cali.  She has suggested that I take her to some place named La bandeja Paisa. Are any of you familar with it?  What are the prices like?  How good is the food?  How about the atmosphere?   This lady seems like a really great gal, so I am hoping that everything will be fine.  But, I just thought I would bounce this off the board, and see what happens.  Maybe some of you have some other suggestions?

Cali Viejo, on Cr 15 near the zoo. This restaurant is a good bet for the bandeja Paisa (Literal translation: hillbilly platter).  It's one of my favorate dishes but a LOT of food and not the most elegant of presenttions  Has fried eggs, rice, meat, chichiron, frijoles Antioqueños (Antioquian Beans), fried plantains, garlic sausage, sliced avocado  and a round arepa. Other good restaurants, but not really cheap are; Carambolo, El Corzo, Av 2CN; Granada Faró, on Av Bolivar; La Fragata in the Hotel Pacífico Royal, La Taberna Alemana in the Hotel InterContinental and Las Dos Parrillas, Av 6N.  Sorry to say but I am not familar with a restaurant called La Bandeja Paisa. but the other posters can and will help.  However, if that is where the lady wants to go, GO!

Just do not let this happen, please:

An American touring Colombia stopped at a local restaurant in Cali following a day of sightseeing. While sipping his aguardente he noticed a sizzling, scrumptious looking platter being served at the next table. Not only did it look good, the smell was wonderful.

He asked the waiter, "What is that you just served?"

The waiter replied, " Ah señor, you have excellent taste! Those are bull testicles from the bull fight this morning. A rare delicacy in this country!"

The American, though taken aback and momentarily daunted, said, "What the hell I'm not here to eat hamburgers, I'm on vacation! Bring me an order!"

The waiter replied, "I am so sorry señor. There is only one serving per day because there is only one bull fight each morning. If you come early tomorrow morning and place your order, we will be sure to save you this delicacy!"

Early next morning the American returned, placed his order, and then that evening he was served the one and only special delicacy of the day. After a few bites, and inspecting the contents of his platter, he called to the waiter and said...

"These are delicious, but they are much, much smaller than the ones I saw you serve yesterday!"

The waiter shrugged his shoulders, smiled and replied,
"Si señor. SOMETIME THE BULL WINS!"

Okie, i don't post here much anymore but miss you on WLC, as i mostly hang out over there. If you have had any problems there, let me know. First, i would not throw in the towel on Medellin. Give it a try - the women are more sincere than Cali (in my humble opinion). Secondly, Bandeja de Paisa is a traditional food of folks from the Medellin area (which includes Manizales, etc.) People from Medellin are called Paisas. So it is the food of the Paisas. It is very delicious and fattening and includes chichiron (fried pork), rice, beans, eggs, and Arepa (think pita bread made from cornmeal). My guess is your new girl was talking about going out for a meal of Bandeja de Paisa - but it is possible there is a resturaunt with that name. Anyway, Bandeja is a cheap meal. Again, go to Medellin. the city is lovely and the women are a sight to see. Suerte! (luck)

Thanks Papi,
I have not "given up" on Medellin. From what I have heard, it is indeed a beautiful city with beautiful ladies.  But, at this time, I am trying to start a relationship with a very special lady.  I feel that she is an exception to the rule, so to speak.  However, it is all too early to tell what will happen.  I might very well go to Medellin.  Unfortunately, I am a man of modest means. I have to be careful with my expenses, so I cannot go everywhere I would like.  Since my main purpose of travelling is the ladies, and since I just happened to "discover" this little jewel; I feel it is only smart on my part to pursue her, and see where it leads.  I could just as easily be in an entirely different position if nothing develops.  So, I will just have to wait and see.

Well Cowboy

Bandeja Paisa  (Paisa Plate)is the traditional dish of Antiochia (Medillen-Manizales-Zona Cafe ) it consists of a plate of rice covered with a fried egg, red beans, a slice of avocado, ground beef, red sausage, blood sausage, chicharone and fried plantains.I think the best place for this in Cali is frijoles verdes. It is in the south on the Autopista but now has branches in some of the malls, It is a lot to eat. There may  be a restaurant by the same name. jimc

Pablo,
It is in Cali.  Since I have talked to you last, I have really started a strong correspondence with a lady in Cali.  Naturally, at this point, I do not know how it will all go.  I am trying to save my money for the trip.  But, any way, she had suggested that restaurant. I thought that maybe some of the posters here might be familiar with it.  It not, that's ok.  By the way, if I do get something going with this girl, then I will have to concentrate on that for a while; so I may, or may not go to Medellin.  Again, it's too soon to tell, but she is gorgeous!  So, until then, I am doing what I can (moneywise) to get my little rear down there and do some serious snuggling, and whatever else comes to mind!
