OM,

I too enjoy history.  It's interesting how we get a certain view that is often slanted and incorrect.  From recently declassified documents it shows that the CIA was involved in some dishonorable practices.

Quoted from one of the links below:

"The latest release of records, when combined with previously available documents, alter our understanding of certain aspects of the Holocaust. Notably, the book’s authors show the failure of U.S. and Allied intelligence to understand how closely tied the "Jewish question" was to the central goals of the Nazi regime; the ways in which U.S. financial institutions helped the German government between 1936 and 1941; and the extent to which U.S. and Allied governments aided and protected war criminals after the war".

Surprising reads.

It is pretty well known but not talked about that one OSS task was the identification of German physicists and engineers who worked on rocket technology.  The Germans were more advanced in this area than any other country at that time and the US was eager to reach them before the Russians could.  The US protected many Nazis who had lots of blood on their hands in order to gain rocket technology for us and keep it from the Russians.

Prior to 1947 it was the OSS (Office of Strategic Services) predecessor agency of the CIA.
