... in response to K1 Question, posted by Ken2 on Jan 26, 2005I believe you will not need to file the Affidavit of Support until she is granted her intervied at the Embassy in Bogotá She can start gathering what she will need now.
Colombian passport valid for a minumum of six months.
Certificate of any previous marriages of both the petitioner, you, and her.
If needed divorce decree, annulment death of husband.
Birth certificate and baptismal certificate
Police certificates from all places where she has lived for six or more months since age 18. I think the one issued by DAS is good for the entire country-but this is only good for one year.
Evidence of valid relationship with the petitioner. Much, much better to have too much rather than not enough. Letters, trips to Colombia, emails, phone bils etc.
Evidence of financial support. the I-134. If you want you can also end one in with your application but I do not think this is needed at this point.
The embassy will then her a package. She needs to follow exactly what they require. Remember, the embassy personal are instructed to keep scams upfrom at all times.
Good luck and remember thousands have gone before you with success.
