... in response to Internet Help, posted by ald07 on Dec 19, 2003I suggest you try an international ISP. I have subscribed to iPass and have used it in Canada and DR. They have access numbers in 150 countries. Another international ISP is Net-Roamer.
After installing their software on your laptop, you can dial-in from anywhere using the local access number. Everytime you log in the worldwide directory of access numbers is updated so your version is always current.
I am satisified with my service. The only problem is international compatibility of telephone equipment. My modem is analog and I was running into many digital lines.
In addition, when I tried to use the line in my hotel, the internal exchange was incompatible with my modem. The solution to that turned out to be to plug my laptop into the RECEIVER jack of the phone rather than the wall outlet. The phone itself is used as a converter. However, this requires an adapter because the receiver jack is smaller than the wall jack. You will need to visit Radio Shack or some similar retailer for the necessary adapter.
Good luck.
