If you want a classy lady - just be a classy guy. It's true the world around. Be a bum, and ... well you get the idea.

I strongly agree with your message. My wife's girlfriends quite often complain about the lack of personal pride in appearance and hygiene by Norte Americanos. When friends come into town and they want to go to the agencies, I always stress the cultural focus on vanity and its implications. I like to give them the analogy of being an older car on the used car lot; the car always sells better with a fresh coat of paint, a detail job and that new car smell.

That said, let's be realistic about this, there are exceptions to the rule. I have a friend who comes down on occasion, surfer type, shorts, vans and cool shirts. He's younger and good looking and the Calenas don't give a damn about what he is or isn't wearing. As for me, my beautiful young wife, as well as her many lovely friends, is more than happy to be in my company shorts or not. It's a wonderful life...

Everything that BeenThere posted is right on target.  Shorts, t-shirts, sandals are a bad idea when meeting a Latina.  Heck, they are probably a bad idea when meeting a US woman.  What kind of guy would do that?  The women in Colombia are probably much more interested in their man dressing nicely than the women in the US.

Before you dress in anything other than slacks, polo shirts, or buttoned-down shirts on a date with a Latina you really want to impress you should first have a quiet talk with her about how she likes you to dress.  Asking her "Is it OK if I wear shorts" does not qualify as a discussion.  She may say "Yes" when the real answer is "No".  You need to draw out her real feelings.  Remember, these are women!

That's not my opinion.  I've been married to two Colombianas.  They are both young and attractive.  My ex told me that how her man dresses is very important to her.  So I let her help shop for my clothes.  Now my second Colombiana says that one of the things she likes about me is how I dress (she also tells me many things she doesn't like about me, but maybe that will be another thread).

Learn this and do it if you want to be successful with Latinas.

A suit would only be for very specail occasions, like weddings.I brought one but I will be here awhile.
I would say cotton pants, like dockers, with nice shirts are fine.Thats all I wear.Jeans are OK some times, you see them alot, but the dockers are OK all times.

Forget the suit. The latinas will appreciate a well dressed man, especially one that smells good and grooms well.

If you have an urge to drench yourself in cologne this the place. The women are accustomed to men wearing more perfume than they do. In fact if you don't want to lose your cookies avoid entering tight spaces like elevators with young Colombian men.

Try to think about being 'middle of the road'... you may easily over dress, the city is very casual.... unless you're hanging with the 'upper-crust- crowd...
Good luck,

A suit isn't necesary unless you are going to a TLC social or a wedding. I plan on doing both while I'm in Cali so I'll bring two but it isn't usually the norm.
During the day you can wear blue jeans or casual pants and a nice sport shirt. Try and stay away from tennis shoes unless you are playing tennis of course. At night always wear nice dress slacks and a long sleeve shirt no matter how hot you think it is.

Never wear shorts unless you are doing an outside activity.
That doesn't inclued the Calbagata (I call it women on parade) but I guess you are going to miss it anyway. It's on Chirstmas day.

Two days to Cali and counting.

Forget the suit..nobody wears suits unless it's for business or something special..most men wear jeans and a nice shirt..slacks will work also..just remember cali is very casual..also cali's climate is on the hot side it's not like bogota which is on the cooler side....suerte...
