Apparently Miss Cali is the new Miss Colombia. I just got a call from my novia and everyone was yelling and cheering in the background. You would think they just won the world cup or something. It's midnight and even Mama stayed up to see who won. Haven't seen a picture of the winner but hey she's from Cali. What do you expect.

It has been 27 years since la reina del valle has won the crown.  This last time was in 1976.  The rumor is that the director at that time said the la reina del valle would not win again because up to that time they had won 7 crowns.  Way more than any other departmento.  She said that the other departmentos needed to catch up on crowns.  So for 27 long years la reina del valle would always place in the top 5 spots until finally, this year, she won again.  The last reina from 1976 actually coached the winner this year.

Some of the other departmentos caught up to the number of crowns over those years - departmento del atlantico now has seven crowns so maybe that in why this year valle won again.
Coincidence??

Los colombianos like to celebrate the beauty of their women and it is a source of pride for them.

Miss Cali is actually Miss Valle (the Departmento where Cali is located).

I spoke to my novia at around 11:30pm  her time and I noticed the same thing. I could barely hear her speak because of the noise in the background. The whole family stayed up to watch it. It must be like the super bowl in Colombia.
