Considering the wife would not contribute to the finances for some time. What do you think is a minimum income  needed to survive without financial stress. What does the INS consider the minimum if any?

If all you're adding is one woman I would say you'll need whatever you normally need per month plus:

Food               $200
Clothes             100
Health Insurance    100
Miscellaneous       100

Again those numbers are per month.  Those numbers are very low.  If you want to keep her happy you may also need to add:

More clothes
English classes
More clothes
Entertainment
More clothes
Extra auto
More clothes
Auto insurance
More clothes
Makeup (including shampoo, conditioners, and a hell of a lot of other things that you and I would never think of but that are absolutely essential to their existence)
Oh, and did I say more clothes

If you're adding children to the mix it goes up about like the first group of expenses per person, plus a few toys and school expenses.

Steve

PS: Topless dancers are independent contractors and so they don't need a social security card.  (That's a joke)

The INS considers this the minimum:

2003 Poverty Guidelines
Minimum Income Requirement For Use in Completing Form I-864

Sponsor's
Household Size--------------125% of Poverty Line
--2-------------------------------$15,150
--3--------------------------------19,075
--4--------------------------------23,000
--5--------------------------------26,925
--6--------------------------------30,850
--7--------------------------------34,775
--8--------------------------------38,700

Add $3,925 for each addtional person.

However it would be very stressfull to try and live on it.
