Especially if you travel a few times a year.They assume you are downplaying your wealth in order not to be taken advantage of.
Most foreigners do not understand about credit cards and such. They just think all Americans have lots of money to throw around.
I know a few foreign families living in the U.S. who are literally living paycheck to paycheck.But are always the ones that people from back home call when they need financial help because everyone assumes they are now rich.
In most foreign countries, you own your home,car. Trips and all luxuries are usually paid in cash. But in the U.S. you can be broke , but still manage to look as though you are doing well .
I think many women come to the U.S. expecting the guy to have downplayed his wealth ,but the suprise is on them when he was actually telling the truth.
