Anybody come up with cheaper ways to ship things to Colombia?  Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of reasonable choices in the shipping area

My brother in-law purchased some equipment in the U.S. and had it drop shipped to Abe Cargo.  He called Abe Cargo after it arrived with his tracking number, they identified the box and he then instructed them to ship it to Cali. It arrived in Cali in two or three days.  I think it was about $2 per pound plus whatever duty tax was involved in Colombia.

Karl - There are two very good options that I know of.

        1) If you live in New York, Florida or any other place where there is a local Avianca office, you can send thing to colombia directly with them. This option is pretty cheap and the things get there in 1 or 2 days.

       2) Set up a Miami drop box. (I will explain how to do it later). Once set up, you just send you parcels regular mail to your drop box in Miami and from there the courier service takes care of getting it to Colombia. This is used by ppl in Colombia who want to order things from Amazon or other catalouges in the USA. They just have the merchandise shipped to their drop box in Miami and the experts at the courier service get it to colombia muy muy rapido.

Well that sure gives me some ideas.  I live in Orange County, just south of LA, but there's an Avianca office there.  I will invistigate.  

In the mean time, how much does a Miami drop bos cost?  And how do you get the courier service to pick it up and deliver to an address in Bogota?  Or do you have to go to the airport?  Is there a way of bypasing this tax thing they have down there?
