For what it's worth I think you are doing the right thing by moving to Cali. If I were you I would do exactly the same thing. But, I think I would already be out of there.
Just grab as much cash as you can and run!!
Why are you still there? I sure wouldn't stick around for a bankrupcy or a divorce.

Where did you get married? If you got married in Cali , you can file for a divorce there. I did and it only took 20 days and $300 to get divorced.

I'll tell you something, I have two girls in Cali that I really, really like and one day pretty soon I will have to pick just one because I'm stuck living here in the U.S. You will never have to make tough choices like that when you live in Cali. You can live like a colombiano and have a girl for everyday of the week if you want.

I'll be down in Cali in December and I'll be pretty tied up so I don't know if I will be able to get away and party with any of you guys while I am there. But, I sure would like to break away for the Calbagata. It is a single man's paradise. I have never seen so many beautiful women in one place in my life. Just think of all the fun you are going to have in Cali and don't waste another minute thinking about your wife. She is gone!!!!

If you want I can send you my cel number in Cali so you can call me when I get there.

If you want to go to the calbagata, We should get to avenida sexta by noon so we can still get a table close to the street. You won't believe how hot some of these women look in the new clothes they got for Chistmas and half of them won't have a peso in their pockets so of course we are going to have to invite them to our table for a drink

 It was Pete's purgatory when he had to spend several weeks there. And he will have to make tough choices like this in Cali: will he live like a respectable monogamous man who gives the women there reason to choose him over colombianos, or will he turn into a player himself? And in that case, how long would it take before he no longer likes who he sees in the mirror? And if he opts for monogamy, what's he going to do with himself all day living in a city that has little to offer other than beautiful women, and where he can hardly go anywhere or do anything without fearing for his safety?

 Pete, if you head south, you can find plenty of places in LA which are enjoyable places to live, in addition to having lots of nice and attractive women. You only need one good woman anyway.

Well if you are scared for your life living in Cali and when you think of the temptations a respectable monogmous man would have to fight off every day, you are right it could become a living HELL.

Well Pete you could go down to Cali and find yourself another hot one and bring her back to the states or mexico or peru or where ever and spend the rest of your days fighting off the americanos or latinos from what ever place you choose that want to steal your wife away. Or you can live with her in Cali where she will be praying to god everyday that you don't find another caleña that is even hotter than she is and dump her.

Which will it be? America where women are queens or Cali where men are kings? Or some place in between?

Laughed like hell when I reasd this.Sounds better than the other alteratves.Thats a pretty convincing argument,but there is he questing what will I be doing with the other 22 hours of my day.

I've got an idea. In Maceió he can find a wife who is lovely in all respects, and live with her there, near her family in paradise. He would choose one who loves him and matches his sexual appetite, and they could bonk like bunnies every day.  Then there are another twenty-two hours in a day, during which if he were in Cali it would be like being in one big minimum-security prison (referring back to his stuck-at-the-in-laws' posts).

In Maceió, though, he/they could swim, snorkel, deep-sea dive, surf, bodysurf, fish, spearfish, sail, parasail, waterski, jetski, skimboard, jog, walk, play table tennis, play regular tennis, go lawn bowling, go regular bowling, play volleyball, go mountain biking, go jungle exploring, drink from fifteen-cent coconuts, hold down a pair of coconut trees with the help of a good hammock, read in the sun, read in the shade, take Portuguese lessons, take Samba lessons, join a Capoeira school, listen to live Samba on the beach while drinking cold beer or caipirinhas after sunset, train their Golden Retriever to fetch beer and newspapers, visit orphanages and pass out toys, start up a pousada, get in a bus or car and go visit other areas such as Recife or Fernando de Noronha, catch a plane and visit the Amazon and Foz do Iguaçu...all without inordinate fear of getting mugged, kidnapped, or carjacked.

Maceio huh? Sounds pretty good. I did a little web search and say just a little about it.Can you point me to good imformation? Its sounds alot better than Cali as a place
I might ultimately want to live.
Brazil has always been of interest to me,the first latin country I was interseted in.When I got into this looking for latinas thing it just seemed like all the action was in Colombia.
Part of the Cali idea was just a first step, a home base.Brazil was one of the places I want to go.Maybe I should do that first before I get hooked up with an OK lady in Cali but get real tired of living there.One of my thoughts was find the lady in Cali,then move to Cartegena or Panama.
I have 4 or 5 weeks rapping things up here to consider alot of things.The last 15 hours or so,7 of which I slept,I have been rethinking the plan.

I posted some links below with pictures of Maceió, plus you could do a Google search for "Maceió real estate" or whatever. Also, one thing I didn't mention in my trip report on LWL is right before leaving I met a local guy who speaks English and offered to help me relocate there myself.

 Oh, and get this-- he owns dogs, and when I told him about how moving with my Golden would be more complicated, he offered to keep her at his house during the transition. I'm sure he would be glad to help you out, and can put you in touch with him via e-mail if you contact me through my LWL address.

 Really, there are loads of pretty women all over the northeast of Brazil; you wouldn't be missing a thing by looking for a brasileira instead of a colombiana, and by moving to Maceió you would only have to relocate once, and no homesickness issues with whoever you marry. There is a lot of action in Colombia in large part because the green card talks; when you go to Maceió you'll see why they don't want to leave. And how can a woman use you for a green card if you're not taking her to the U.S.?

 You could come to Brazil on a tourist visa, which will take care of your first six months, then sign up for English classes at the federal university if you can handle the grueling three hour a week schedule ;-), which will get you a year right there. Then either apply for an extension of that, or leave the country and re-enter as a tourist for another six months. At some point you meet Miss Wonderful, get married, and get permanent residency and free Portuguese lessons.

It looks very interesting but I couldn't find much imformation,mostly hotel and real estate adds.Both of which looked pretty expensive by latin standards.
You have been there I presume.How did you find out about it?
Whats the cost of living?Whats the women situation like?
Whats it cost to fly there and check it out,from Florida as a refference?

You're not on LWL anymore, I take it; I recently wrote a multi-part trip report. I don't know what it would cost to fly from the U.S. because I traveled domestically from the south of Brazil. If you were reading ads in English you may have been looking at a Gringo surcharge, unless you were reading prices in Reals as Dollars. I got a very decent hotel room across the street from the waterfront for R$53 a night including breakfast, which works out to less than U.S. $20. That was definitely not the cheapest in town.

  Looking at some real estate pages, I'm seeing quite a variance of prices. Some two-bedroom apartments in Ponta Verde, the nicest area of downtown, for R$90,000 (U.S.$33,000), while others are up near R$400,000.

  Ref. 12 is a three bedroom (one a suite) house with a four car garage for R$100,000 (about U.S.$36,000 at the moment). Supposedly it is close to Praia do Francés, the nicest beach in the area. Ref 13 is same neighborhood, similar house but three car garage, recent construction, same price. There are photos you can click on.

Ref 10 has five bedrooms, two of which are suites, and a pool, for R$200k. It has accomodations for twenty people, if you wanted to buy it and invite us all over for a PL slumber party :-).

 Ref 5 says call for price :-( . Looks nice though: four bedrooms, one a suite, and 200m from the beach (Francés).

 ...check the number of "qtos": bedrooms, and add about R$200 a month to the rent for condo fees and taxes.

 Keep in mind, too, about all this, that there is a quality of life issue: you don't have to be stressed out all the time about safety, and the area is gorgeous.

I haven't been to Brasil or Costa Rica. All I have seen is what's on websites - nothing much.

I have seen a lot of pictures of Costa Rican women and all in all they are not as attractive as Caleñas IMHO. I have seen some Brasilian women that I thought were pretty hot on websites that sell addresses but I never saw two from the same city that I thought were hot. I have even seen Russian women that I thought were beautiful. But, Russia and Brasil are huge countries and the decent women are spread out over 1000 miles or more. Why would I spend my time writing women all over hell and back to meet one attractive women in one city when I can go to one place and meet thousands of beautiful women and they are all with walking distance basicly.

If you know of a better place than Cali, I'm all hears. Post some pictures or something. I would like to see some other places in the world but I just can't stop buying tickets to Colombia!

Without having gone there, your criteria for judgement is way off. You arent going to find pictures of hot Costa Rican women on marriage agency web sites. This isn't exactly something that is highly looked upon in their country. As for brasilians, unless you are checking out the brasilian press (magazines like SOHO in Colombia) you can't really get an idea of the women because again, the marriage agencies or singles web sites arent really big down there. I will try to get you some links of Brasilian magazines so you can see the variety and beauty of these women.

In the meantime, take it from someone who has been to all three countries: there is a lot going on in Costa Rica and Brasil and on average, the women are hotter in Costa Rica. You might not find as many silicone enhanced beauties in Costa Rica, but in terms of naturally delicious women, you will find plenty. In Brasil you will find it all.

We're talking about a place where someone could actually live without 24/7/365 fear of being mugged or kidnapped. And let's be honest, a good part of the reason that colombianas are such a turkey shoot is many of them want to get out of Dodge, on your dime. You don't see nearly as many brasileiras on websites because they don't have nearly as much incentive to split-- though many are very open to the idea of a non-Brazilian man if he were going to stick around in their country.

We're not talking here about YOU "writing to women all over hell and back", we're talking about a very liveable place with plenty of nice, beautiful women where Pete could live long term and actually enjoy it.

I know of several places better than Cali, for men who want to stay for more than a week or so. Maceió, Alagoas, Brasil, is just one of them.
