You can get your phone programed with a local number for about $25.Last time we were there we took 2 phones, both with verizon here. They could program my wifes phone but not mine for some reason.I need to find out what the requirement is.You can get incoming calls free but you need to buy phone cards for outgoing calls. The sell that at every intersection. When you get back home you can just get your cell phone service to program itback to the next number.
Where did we get it programed? Some place my brother in law told my wife about.Cali locals should know.

If you have a GSM phone you should be able to, as long as you have the service or have made arrangements with your local cell carrier.  It get's expensive though.  I use mine when I travel, except in Cali where I keep a local comcel phone.  Check with your carrier, they'll hook you up. -TNC

Some cell phones will work world wide... check with your company, to see what the coverage... and more importantly... the costs.  My friend takes his when he travels to Caracas.  And I know mine here in Brazil will work when I travel to the US.  Hope this helps... Cheryl
