Per my previous post I'm 55 w/ 4 children & don't particularly want to sire anymore! So in my search for a life mate(Mine-not hers_Ha!), I'm thinking find a nice younger lady w/ children. As some of you already posted I agree that she is more likely to be more stable and hopefully more committed to make things work. However, what concerns me are posts where the male children are out of control and the Colombian mother refuses to discipline the males. Is this true in general? If so, how about the female children? Agruments and disagreements between couples on how to raise children can and do tear marriages apart! Especially if you aren't the father. Comments?

My step son was 8 when he came here.He is now 12.He was a little whiney when he first came,he slept with his mother every night of his life untill I came along.
But he is a very good, smart, thoughtfull kid.No problem at all now.I think he might be a bit of an exception. And his mother is all over him if he does anything, maybe an exception also.

You might want to re-read a thread I started on this subject back on 3/6/2003.  It's title "Raising Children" and you can find it under forum 127 in the drop-down box in the left-hand column on this page.

Wassup with everyone wanting a young girl? There must be plenty of late 30s top mid 40s (still much younger than you)  very attractive ladies with grown or teenaged children looking for a nice man, who will be stable, mature and make a far better life mate than a young'un who'll wake up when she's in her mid 30s and find out she's hooked up with grampa.

If I had it to do over again now (and I'm 50) there's no way I'd take on someone else's a young kid, especially not a boy. A teenaged girl, maybe, but she'd have to be a darling and have to not have any relationship with her father. Just my 2 cents worth.

I certainly have not seen as many in Colombia as you do in the US.  A non-issue IMHO, I would think it would be obvious should you run into that scenario.  Indeed odds are that most middle+ class will have been sending their children to private collegios, which tend to run a pretty tight ship.  Also in general I believe the Latina temper translates quite effectively on the discipline matters.

One thing that I've noticed, the younger the child the better.  Better and easier to build the foundation of what's acceptable behaviour, than to correct old bad habits and manners.  Definitely just my two cents, take it for what it's worth. Good Luck -TNC
