10-10 Numbers vs. Calling Cards

I used to use calling cards to call Colombia, but the connections were often bad, so I switched to 10-10 numbers, eventually settling on 10-10-345. It was more expensive than calling cards, but the connections were almost guaranteed. I even use it to make domestic long distance calls.

Now I'm having lots of trouble getting connections to Colombia with the 10-10-345 prefix. I'm wondering if there are now too many people using it, or what?

Any suggestions for cheap, RELIABLE calling to Colombia?

The people here that call Colombia like a card called UTA. We find it at almost any ethnic grocery here. It has always worked flawlessly for us and is cheap.

I use netone international for my long distance service.
I pay 3.95 a month and I can call Colombia 24 hours a day and cell phones for 13 cents a minute. The connection is always good and they even give you a calling card that you can use when you are traveling at the same low price.

Have you tried the calling card yet calling from cali to the United States?  Now, I am using AT&T for a calling card because it always seems to be the most reliable card in other countries.

I used to use an AT&T calling card along time ago but it was more expensive than using the long distance phone places in the malls so I normally call from the malls. I saw an advertisment on colombian TV once where they were promoting a 10-10 type number to call the U.S. it was really cheap but you would have to use somebody's home phone in Colombia to use it.

The same thing happened to me.  I use to use calling cards, but I kept careful records.  When all of the hidden fees were taken into account and the money lost do to bad connections, and the high unreliablity of the calling cards, and the high annoyance of having to call again and again only to get a busy signal, they always turned out to be a more expensive alternative or at best  I would break even.  The 10-10-345 service has proven to be the cheapest route.  I don’t believe there is a calling card out there that works.  If someone has one, show us the detailed records to prove it.

I'm interested.  Since I'm going to call Bogota next week, how would I do it with the 10-10-345 numbers including the prefix?

10-10-345 = use this company
011 = international call
57 = Colombia
1 = Bogota

some other cities
2 = Cali
3 = cell phone (any city)
5 = Cartagena
7 = Bucaramanga
4 = Medellin (I think)

others similar services are 10-10-123; 10-10-321; and the one I use, 10-16-868

Just dial it all as one big number, you don't have to wait for a second dial tone or anything like that.

Do you have any trouble making/keeping connections? What is the cost to Cali? To cell phones? Thanks.

Sometimes terrible, sometimes just like a local call. You'll find that to be the case with all of the 10's and all of the cards. I think it costs 17 cents per minute, not sure if cell phones cost more. I usually use cards, but if I'm out of cards, I'll use a 10.
