If you are seriously thinking of marrying a woman from Colombia, I recommend that you go to a marriage counselor in Colombia to get some pre-marriage counseling to flush out any problems and see if you are compatible.

The marriage counselors can be found in the yellow pages (páginas amarillas) under the heading “terapia matrimonial”.

The price for an hour ranges from $70,000 pesos ($26) to $130,000 pesos (about $49) depending on the experience of the counselor.  And in Colombia you get a full hour.. not 50 minutes like the US.

I recently went to one of the best in order to work through some issues with my novia. The counselor had 30 years of experience, was a professor in psychology, and spoke both English and Spanish.  She was expensive ($49 an hour) but someone in the US with her experience could have easily cost from $150 to $200 an hour.

When you think how much you are going to lose by marrying the wrong person, it is extremely economical.

Figured it would be worthwhile to do that in the U.S. within the 90 day fiance period but makes better sense to do that in Colombia before you file if there is an English speaking MT. Did you find your MT in Bogota? Don't imagine there are a lot of English speaking MTs in Bogota? Do they advertise as speaking English?

My novia talked to a friend who recommended a counselor that she used to do some counseling.  Your novia should be able to find someone without much problems.  Many of the professionals in Bogotá speak English.

thats the best advice that i have heard in a long time. i think every man who is not fluent in spanish, and even the ones who are should do it, just to make sure their are no suprises when they bring their fiancee up.

Very, very good advice.  I'd never thought about that -- thanks.
