... in response to Tax and Cheat, posted by moam on Oct 6, 2003[This message has been edited by Miguel]
Moam, I didn't mean to imply in any way that anything you've posted has anything to do with tax cheating. I was referring to books and web sites (not your postings) that promote tax avoidance schemes that aren't legal. To be honest, knowing nothing about IL and never having attended a conference, for all I know whatever is being presented there may not fall into that category. I just intended to say I've looked closely and could not find a good, legal way to permanently avoid tax on investment income, and there are holes in plans that are being marketed in books and on the web. Similarly, in agreeing, Burbuja2 wasn't saying any of your postings were associated with tax cheating either.
Thanks for your comments on teak industry in Panama. I took a quick look at a project in Costa Rica years ago, and there were some problems with it. As a result, I probably have a negative attitude towards projects of that type in general, which perhaps I shouldn't.
Thanks for tip regarding Carnival. I did look up info. Micky Arison, who appears to control company, do you know if he is a U.S. citizen? If answer is yes, do you know if he individually or his trusts have to pay taxes to U.S. government by virtue of share ownership in Carnival?
And, finally, thanks for post you put on here sometime ago about Panama. It was one of reasons I visited there recently.
