After long consideration... I'm going for it

I'm a long time reader first time writer. After a month of trying to register the time finally came. Looking back I really appreciated the time to review over two years of post. It gave me the time not only to learn about Colombia but to understand this forum and its members. Well after much debate and with the encouragement of some and the horror of others I have made the decision to go to Cali later this month. I like others have grown tired of the AW. I am 36 years old, no children and a good looking man ( so I have been told by women) I have a government job which pays a better then average salary so they cant complain about funds or benifits. Unfortuantely I have always had the nice/good guy label. AW have always wanted me to be their friend and have turned to the bad boy for other endeavors. Now that I am older and established more women want me. Naturaly, now they are older have more then one kid, bitter and there better years are behind them..... Who wants that? Over the past year I have been looking outside the US. I have been to the DR 8 times and have met some wonderful people. Just not the one. I am now heading Cali to continue my search. I will be there for a week though I can stay longer if things are going well. I plan on using Latin Encounters and All Colombian Girls as my main two agencies. I speak more then a little spanish but less then enough. I have taken one course of Berlitz spanish. I believe they are overrated and a course and half of Pimsleur (well worth the money). I hope this limited knowledge will help me interact easier. Thanks again for all the knowledge. Hopefully I will be posting positive things about Cali in the future.

Well, I am another 36 year old professional (high school teacher) man with no children, never been married, who is fed up with AW.  My problem was that I was always meeting divorced women with children, and I just felt I could do better.  So, I joined Cherry Blossoms, and after a few months of emailing, chatting, I am going to visit my novia in Peru on November 22-November 25.  

My first time out of USA, so I am very afraid of everthing.

Watch out for the con artists! Be very afraid! As for AW, you can find a good one. That should not be your modivation for going south. And whats wrong with divorced women with children? Not neccessarily a bad thing. At your age most single women in your age group will be divorced and most likely have children. look at yourself first, then find that special person...

BTW, my modivation for looking south was the culture and my personal preferences. Not because I have a problem with AW.

This has to be the worse case of do as I say and not as I do that I have ever seen! Who died and left you board monitor and conscience for the masses?

You are no different from anyone else here if you went down south seeking a mate. I cringe when I see people like you coming, simply because you can see clearly how to critize others while refusing to look at self. Sheesh....
And another thing, the word is motivation. 'Modivate' yourself to maintaining a positive attitude. Be afraid, be very afraid... that is the most pathetic intro that I have seen yet.

I am glad that you are finally doing something instead of talking. I will give you this advice, let things flow and enjoy yourself and take it slow.
One more thing, stop with the judgemental views, these are grown men here and the decisions they make are informed choices. You contributions are good at times, however, you always manage to find a way to insult someone's intelligence. Keep us posted.

The tip: DON'T bring up money or possessions (ie, house, car, boat, horse, etc). The girls who want to know about them first thing are NOT the ones you want and the ones who don't ask will be turned off if you bring it up.  

The warning: Be prepared, your life is going to change FOREVER. After meeting the girls of Cali you will not want anything to do with an American woman again.

if cali doenst work, try barranquilla, bogota, peru or brazil. lots of gringos going to cali. i also wouldnt bring up the money issue or how much you make, you might attract the wrong kind of woman. i always tried the average approach, have an average job, average house or apartment, average car ect,good luck!!!!!

I can relate to your women experiences since I also have the nice guy label. Now that I am more finalcially established
more women are interested but like your situation, a lot of them have kids and other baggage. That is why I chose to search abroad for a wife.

Good luck with your trip. I think you'll like it. I never knew a guy who took just one trip to Colombia and never returned. Give us a trip report.

I did the home Spanish thing for a while and wasn't very satisfied with the results.  Then I started taking night classes at a junior college.  I learned way more that way then I did on my own.  Maybe part of it was that I was more disiplined, but I felt that having an instructor who was a native speaker was a big benefit.

I'd check out classes in your area.  It's more work, but putting in more effort is what makes you learn faster.

Good luck on your trip south.  I think it is good that you have given your decison some thought. Forums like this can provide a wide range of opinions and experiences.  You are at least aware of the good, the bad, and the ugly of looking for an LA wife.
