I don't think that this is just common to those guys who are married to Colombianas. I was married for 4 years to a woman from the Rep. of Georgia (former Soviet Union) who was very careful and frugal with her own money, but never had any problems with spending mine. (My particular pet peeve was her penchant for turning up the thermostat in the winter to about 80 and then opening up the windows in the house! Or leaving the faucet running all day - a common practice in her country apparently.)
It's really surprising how little regard women from relatively modest backgrounds have for saving for the future, and how they just live for the present moment.
At least you are getting some affection - don't look to FSU women for much of that after the "I do's" are exchanged!!! (Just a few words of advice to any lurkers who may be undecided between Latin America and eastern Europe - advice that I wish someone had given me about 5 years ago.)
