... in response to Re: Re: Archive search repaired, posted by Patrick on Sep 15, 2003"Abend" is a computer programming term (an abbreviation, if you will) that means "abnormal ending"...in other words, it 'bombed'. The search no longer bombs, but what it does do wrong is despite the fact that you have to say which board you want to search, it returns matches from ALL of them. Then, (let's say you said search the Latin board) you pick a result that came from the Asian board (but you have no way of knowing that by just looking at the search results) and then pick the 'view thread' option. Instead of showing the thread related to the message you picked, it shows you the thread for the same time frame on the board you orginally specified.
Here's a specific example: Search Latin board for the word "goat", with the search by "message" option. When the search is finished and the selections are offered, choose "my take on it" posted by Febtember on 12/6/2002. When the message is opened, pick the "view thread" option and you will see archive #118 from the Latin board (which covers the date range 12/6/2002), however, Febtember's message is actualy in archive #112 of the Asian board.
That's the only example I took notes on, but it happens the same way for other cases, try a common word like "hotel" or "visa" and you can find many examples of the same problem. This problem was happening BEFORE the search went down a few days ago, so I suspect that it is not related to your recent fix. Hope this explaination and example helps you track it down. Thanks.
