Jim,  If I'm so insignificant, why do waste so much time and energy coming up with your clever (clever??) put-downs of me???  Also why does your blood boil when you read one of my posts???  You have a choice you know......just don't click on my posts when they appear...............but then again, there is something deep inside that makes you do it, right??  You just can't resist.........so I AM significant to you.  Maybe it bothers you that I have the means to travel to Colombia 6-7 times a year, maybe it bothers you that I'm NOT really a "has been", maybe it bothers you that I have no trouble attracting the ladies, am fluent in spanish..............I don't know of anyone on this board who is still single and actively looking who wouldn't want to live my life-style......so get over it Jimbo.  And for all of you other members of the "good ole boy" network, try to get a life.  You guys are so absorbed in this board it's pathetic.  What did you do this weekend when the board was down??........maybe (hopefully) you paid a little more attention to your wife, maybe you looked for a good paying job.  My jabs at some of you are made so the newbies and the fence sitters can see that some of you don't know what you're talking about, and the information SOME of you dish out should be taken with a grain of salt.
Newbies, there is good info shared on this board at times, it is just unfortunately shared by the wrong people.
And when someone starts posting and keeping the "know it alls" in line, the good ole' boy network chases them off (ex. Traveler).
Until I'm banned guys, I'm here to stay...........I've been soft on you JimC, Iswote, cancunhound, DallasSteve, but I have plenty to say to you guys, just give me an excuse.

I think if you've got some good information for newbies than great I think everyone would enjoy reading it.  This is a free board and you're just as entitled to post as anyone else here.

You may be the great expert you claim to be but since I don't know you from Adam and you've only been posting here for a few months, so far you only strike me as a person who likes to point out others misspellings or incorrect Spanish.  On the other hand, I've been reading Jim C for several years and although occasionly sarcastic his opinion is one that I respect and put a lot of faith in.

I think you're mistaking the "good ole boy" network with respect.  Respect is something you earn over time, it's not something that's given freely.  A few guys like Jim C, Calivet and Pete have earned the respect of most people on the board because they've made a sincere attempt to help people and they've given a lot of good information over the years.  I don't always agree with their opinions but I've learned that not everything is black and white in this adventure of ours and honest opinions vary.

Also, I've learned that real experts don't generally try to persuade others what experts they are.  It's self evident.....

Cali James,
I don't have a problem with Calivet, or Pete........never included them in my list did I???  Since you have so much time on your hands, check the archives, when did I ever post that I was an expert??  POST IT!!!  but I have a problem with guys like cancunhound, recently posted that he was a "consultant" on latin issues, but he still maintains that women call other women "nene" in Cali, which is just not so. Now CAli James, if you want to take his advice the next time you're in Cali and call a woman "nene" go ahead, but you'll get a wierd look.  He also has posted that, in Cali agencies, the women is going to go for the richest gringo, no matter what.  Well, since he married a Calena, I guess the pickings were slim when his wife chose him.  In the times I've been to Cali, I've never been asked for a financial statement by anyone.
Then there's old Jim (by the way, just because you have an ex-wife, that doesn't mean you can get a date, by the way, where is she now??)   Doesn't know a thing about me, says I only date teenies (show me some proof), defended Calipro when he was blasted for dating teenies (kind of hypocritical don't you think Jim?)  By the way Jimbo, you can see my last girlfriend on Telepacifico sat. nights at 8:00, she hosts a show called "Boon de la semana", she's 32.
I'll e-mail you pics if you want.   He then makes a trip to Cartagena, he's such a world traveler that he can't even get his driver to take him to a mall.  He then makes a post stating that the papaya rule doesn't apply in Cartagena, then goes to a party, lets the girls there drink his liquor, and when they don't pay any attention to him, he gets upset.  Jim what happened to the papaya??  Don't give papaya in Cartagena Jimbo, they WILL take it.
Then he states in one of his posts to me that I lack social graces, but he brags that he went to an AFA party and left without paying the $35.............then walks home loaded. Getting drunk in a foreign country guys is very disrespectful.  Then he rips the Cartageneras at the party, calling them Cinderellas, sardinas, Britany wannabes.......he insulted them, just because they showed no interest in him.  Very classy Jim.  But hey, they drank his drinks........no dar papaya Jimbo.............
Now Cali James.......this is an example of what I'm speaking about.  And this is a guy you rely on for all of your good Colombia info??  Please...........
Newbies, be careful where you get your info on this board, that's what I'm saying.

I admit Jim got a little reactionary here also but I think he has let it go,I don't see any new posts by him.Seems like your in a negative prove him wrong I'm right spiral.I understand how anger can get to you but why spend all that energy on it?I didn't follow exactly what happened here, seems it went from simple disagreement to trying to tear down the other person.
Looks like Patrick deleted the thread from above. He probably will this one too when he reads it.In one sense there might be a little of a good old boy thing going on.I think if a guy has been around a long time and has done alot of possitive and imformational posts Patrick will cut him a little more slack before banning him.If you don't fit that catagory you might be a little more carefull.
For what its worth.

Pete

Just for the record, my novia calls me “nene” all the time, along with papi, papicito, papi chulo, and she even makes things up like “grillocito” (little cricket).  I have also heard her call total strangers “muneca” (doll).  In Latin America, words of affection are used freely and you can create them by forming diminutives typically by adding “ito” “ita”, “cito” “cita”.  Your novia will expect you to be creative and form your own words, for example, I call my novia “gusanita de mariposa” (the little worm of a butterfly).  When I say that she says “Que lindo”.  These words are very common in Latin countries and are used to create a warm feeling among friends.

Been there's point is that nene isn't a word a man should use for a woman but the better word would be nena.  I asked my wife today and she agreed with him technically but in practice she said it would be acceptable in Cali anyway, to call a novia or wife nene. My wife's not a Spanish teacher but I trust her opinion about what would be acceptable or not.  She said that with some words using the masculine for a female would be OK but for others clearly not.  For instance, negrita is a word of affection you'll hear for a woman but you would not likely ever hear a woman called negrito.  That would get you the stange look Been There was talking about.  However my wife said that nene is a bit different and in this case the masculine could be used even for a woman with no harm done.  Anyway my wife said pretty much what you did, when it comes to words of affection, there's a lot more freedom in the language.

Anyway, if you're reading this Calipro, I suspect your amiga is probably fine with you calling her "nene".

Oh, not to mention our resident "expert" Jimbo, who "maintains an apartment in Cali"  can't even get "sancocho de gallina" right.  Mine was just a hurried mistake...........but sancocho de gagina???  Come on Jimbo, you're an expert on Colombia, and all of the times you've seen it on the menus, seen it on the street corners??
You see newbies, "sancocho de gallina" is a stew, and probably the most popular dish in Cali.......it's everywhere............it would be like a hamburger to us here in the US, the most popular food..........and for a guy like Jimbo to not even know how to spell it...........well, it kind of kills his credibility when it comes to Cali and Colombian culture.  Keep trying jimbo!!!

Who cares, so Jim C spelled "gallina" phonetically as "gagina".  In the whole scheme of things does it really make a big difference one way or another that he spelled it incorrectly? We all knew what he was referring to and so there was no major harm done.  But your response is curious, do you truly believe that this misspelling "kills" any credibility he may have when it comes to Colombia and sharing his experiences.

If you truly believe this, then perhaps you suffer from a far bigger problem, that of making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I jumped into this little word spelling contest because your part in it struck me as petty and vengeful and I thought I'd take a little poke at our resident expert in Spanish.  I don't really care too much about the war of words you and Jim were having before, there have been a thousand of these in the past and I am sure a thousand will follow. But the irony of you correcting the spelling of a guy you had a war with a few days before and then misspelling the phrase yourself was too much for me to resist.  I know you came back and corrected your misspelling but that doesn't change the irony for me but rather amplifies it.  You were so concerned about it that you "immediately" corrected yourself.

but at least I'll be able to get a date, something you haven't experienced in probably 10 years, unless she was a flora fresca.
BTW, the gloves are now off.

You see Dominguin, the man who gets bi#tch slapped is the weaker one, he is being dominated by the stronger one, the slapper, that's why it's not good to ever get b*tch slapped, because it shows weakness.  The slapper could have used his fists, but to insult the receiver, he b*tch slaps him instead.  got it??

Good one beenthere, go to GREAT lengths to correct a guy's spelling, and in doing so, spell a word incorrectly yourself.  (-:

Also, what's up with the above quote, you actually hate Jim based on a few sarcastic exchanges??  You may be taking this board and yourself a bit too seriously.....

Quite the contrary Cali James............first of all I had corrected the spelling, but the webmaster deleted my post (very suspicious), secondly sorry that quote went over your head, thirdly I take this board VERY lightly.....sorry you haven't seen that.  I HAVE NEVER called anyone on this board a weasel, an idiot, a poor slob, a lolita shark, tattle tail (one I haven't heard since 6th grade).  These are all names that old Jim would NEVER have the guts to call me to my face.
