My wife wants to bring her pug here from Cali.  Does anyone know what's involved?

I friend of mine recently brought his dog and cat to Chile.
His biggest problem was that the major airlines in the US stopped carrying animals after an incident where a dog got loose and chewed some key wiring in the cargo area.  He could not find a carrier to get his dog from Denver to Miami.  He could get the dog from Miami to Santiago on LanChile. His wife had to drive a rental car to Miami with the dog, kind of expensive.

So... you had better call the airlines to see which if any in the US still will carry a pet.

After having that dog force me out of bed in my then-fiancee's apartment, not to mention the dog's lack of discipline in bathroom activities, that is GREAT news!

A couple years ago I traveled overseas back and forth
with my dogs several times.   As long as you have an
official rabies and distemper shot and stamped
statement that the dog is healthy, entering the US is no
problem. The shot has to be given at least two weeks
before travel.  Airlines can be PITA about it.  Proper
cage and extra $$ required.

Mine wants to bring two minature schauwsers (sp?). Let me know what you find out. Cancunhound is probably right, it's probably much easier to get a dog visa than a people visa.

I've gone the reverse direction, maybe it's similar.  You should be able to get the requirements from our US customs website, or maybe the embassy in Bogota's site.  For USA to Colombia, it was basically the same old song - get your vet to sign off on the shots, get that translated and stamped at your local Colombian consulate (I bet it's much easier to get a Canine visa from Colombia than other categories)
