How can one be sure of a relationship with someone you do not even know well. We live in different countries. It takes a long time to know someone well, even then you can never be certain. People can change with time also. At some point you have to be willing to go with the gut and take a chance. If you don't take a chance you never get anywhere in life. Nothing is a sure thing and bringing someone over from a foreign country to marry is a huge risk. That does not mean one should not do it.

How can someone propose to someone they do not know well?

Moving to another country is a BIGGER risk. Don't take it so lightly.

What every good woman wants to hear

"I love you so much that I want you to leave your family, friends, country and culture.  Come to the US with me, so I can take you out for an 89 day spin."

Has a "romantic, loving" feel to it, don't you think?

Emerald is traditional in Colombia, mine was thrilled with a medium size emerald (cost $550 retail in a US mall chain jewerly store, if I remember right, it's 3/4 karet, a careful shopper probably could have bought it for $150 to $200 in Colombia). OTOH, I wouldn't advise giving her a used King Edward cigar band if you aren't SURE of the relationship, and (no offense) but your last few posts seems to indicate that you aren't sure.

Ironically as my wife used to work for a fine joyeria in Cali - emeralds were not perceived by her as a good choice, although we have that "emerald" perception of Colombia - the gals are no different than here - Diamonds and Gold!  We ended up getting kind of a traditional band with a twist, it was a two tone band composed of both white and regular gold - I had never seen it in the US - very nice and practical (only took me about 3 months to lose mine in the Ocean - so I vote for practical!)
