Ok Hans, I think, I myself, and I speak for no one other than myself, how you are. Obvioulsy, being an AMERICAN, perhaps I am missing something about your type of humour. It just looks like to me your are insulting just about everyone you have written about and just about everyone that has responded to your posts.
I did not give you any advice, simply making an observation. And frankly, I do not believe I will waste my time giving you any. I know, I know, that really kills you because you know so much about Colombia that there is no need to have such petty and useless advice.
I would wish you luck in your search for a woman who will give you no sh!t, but I can already see where that's going.

In the 6 years that I worked for a company in Peru, I only took a vacation once and when I did I had to look for someone who I could trust, someone who would cover me while I was gone and wouldn't "steal" my job.

Put yourself in her shoes. Would you take a 3-week vacation for someone you don't know who is promising you would go to visit you?

I wonder how many men tell them they will visit and never show up. They have to be careful.

And in the event that you paid for her time off, what assures her she will have a job when she returns to work after 3 weeks of vacation.

Like you said, you need a back-up plan. Check with an agency and get appointments with the woman during the day and visit with your friend in the evenings.

Georgina, your post is right on! My novia lost her position because she took 2 weeks off when I came down. When she went back to her job, she found out that the boss' mistress had been given her position and she was moved into another office. This was not because she took the time off (unpaid time off, since she works as a consultant) but because the mistress thinks Maribel is telling the boss's wife what's going on. Maribel doesn't get in the middle of all this, but she has received calls from the wife and has had to handle a very delicate situation. Plus the verbal and emotional abuse, the late and/or partial payment of wages at the whim of the boss, she could go on, but it is not imagineable what she goes through for me. She and others put up with this because of the 40% unemployment in Peru.

I am sorry for what your fiancee has to put up with. My ex-boss was tacaño, but I managed to deal with him. However, he was never disrespectful and never yelled at me or something like that.

Hola amiga Georgina,

I was in Peru...as well in Bolivia.
I met some proffesional ladies there.

They ALL got several WEEKS (paid) off a year!!!!

My last date was a contabil at a large firm in Lima.

She got a WHOLE MONTH leave when I met her in Lima.

There w ere more women that got (paid) holidays. Ture...not as many as here in the west and also at low wages, BUT they realy have paid free holidays!!!

I am not talking about uneducated girls that work as a housemaid or in a factory.

I think you just had a LOUSY employer!!!

Suerte.

Hans-Erich.

PS: not to worry...i allready have a  back up plan.

Ha, ha. Is this black humor or what? I am sure there are people who hold good jobs and pays in SA, but this is not the rule. Maybe you were dating a top government employee. I doubt it.

I had a better job than many in my country (thanks God) and I wanted to keep it.

I had a paid vacation and paid holidays, but this in most parts of SA doesn't mean you will still have a job when you return from your vacation. THERE IS NOT JOB STABILITY ¿Comprendes? Whatever your profession is maid or factory worker or engineer with a MA degree, you take care of your job and are careful about taking free time.

As for education, I can tell you of many educated people in SA holding a degree who have to work as maids and factory workers to be able to survive.

Are you sure you have been to Brazil and Argentina? You are showing off your total ignorance of the reality in South America.

You should subscribe to Latin Trade, maybe this magazine can help you a little to understand the economics in the land where I was born and lived for 25 years.

Thanks for the laugh, anyway.

I'm sure Georgina had a GOOD employer.  Don't insult her just because she shared her first hand experience with you.
After all, she is a Peruvian, born and raised, you've dated 2 Peruanas, and all of a sudden you know more about the employment practices of Peru than she does???  What's up with you Hans???
I own a business with 25 employees, and yes I am a good employer.  But if one of my upper management people would come in to my office and ask for 3 weeks off because "good ole Hans" was coming into town, they would be denied.  First of all they need to put in their request at least 8 weeks in advance.  Number 2, they might not have any vacation time left, might have already used it up.  #3 we might be in the middle of our busy season and can't afford to lose people at that time. #4 Other key employees may be taking vacation at that time.  #5 the employee in question might not have a position that offers vacation due to lack of seniority.  Most firms require that an employee be with a company for a year before they are eligible for vacation. I could go on and on with reasons.
Hans, your attitude needs an adjustment.

Nothing more...noting less.

aND My ATTITUDE  is JUST fine sir!!!:-)
Maybe It is YOUR attitude thjat needs rejustment??? yes??

You seem to forget that I am NOT an American. I have other values...education....language....opinions.

You Americans must try to see other people how they are NOT what YOU like them to be!!!!!!!!

Dear Burbuja2

is THIS your profile:
I'm a kiss stealing, wheeling-dealing, airplane flying, limousine riding son of a gun. I was married in Cali on 21 December 2002 and again in New Orleans in January, 2003 in a civil ceremony for tax purposes. I'm an attorney in New Orleans and I used to own an adult oriented business in El Salvador. Yes, life is good.

****

Huh??

Who do you think you are kidding here???

Go and tell your fairy tales to someone else but not to me!!
I was too long in SA to "smell"con men like you.
You are a big show off...and a no-good man.

Atorney?? "adult oriented business"??

Sounds to me you are just a PIMP on the run for justice!!
And "atorney" are lowlifes from the worst part anyway....so that comes in handy.

Hans-Erich.
